WHAT IS HEAT TRANSFER?
Heat can be transferred by any matter
composed of atoms and molecules. At any
given time, the atoms are in various states of
motion. Heat or thermal energy is produced
by the motion of molecules and atoms, and it
is present in all matter. The greater the
motion of molecules, the greater the heat
energy. However, when it comes to heat
transfer, it is simply the process of
transferring heat from a high-temperature
body to a low-temperature body.

HOW DOES HEAT GET TRANSFERRED?
● Conduction
● Convection
● Radiation
1
CONDUCTION
CONDUCTION
Conduction is the transfer of
heat energy through collisions
between neighboring atoms or
molecules. Conduction occurs
more easily in solids and
liquids because the particles
are closer together than in
gases because the particles are
farther apart.
2
CONVECTION
CONVECTION
Convection is the transfer of
heat from a solid surface to a
WARM
nonsolid, such as air or water.
MOLECULES
The motion of the fluid
relative to the solid surface, as
well as the processes by which
heat is transferred across the
interface, are all part of the
convection process. HEAT
COOL MOLECULES

RADIATION
RADIATION
The emission or transmission
of energy in the form of waves
or particles through space or a
material medium is referred to
as radiation. This includes
radio waves, microwaves,
infrared, visible light, X-rays,
and other forms of
electromagnetic radiation.

EXAMPLES OF CONDUCTION
EXAMPLE # 1
● Ironing of clothes is
an example of
conduction where the
heat is conducted
from the iron to the
clothes.

● Blood circulation in
warm-blooded animals
takes place with the
help of convection,
thereby regulating the
body temperature.
