3.1. RESPONSIBILITY
It is the responsibility of anyone who supplies equipment to this specification to ensure and document
compliance with the requirements defined by this specification, other relevant standards and statutory
requirements. Any deviation from any of the requirements defined herein shall be clearly indicated and
treated as a non-conformance.
The Subsea Distribution Unit shall be appointed for distributing hydraulic, chemical, power and signal
services to subsea assemblies (e.g. trees, manifolds, subsea umbilical termination assemblies) located
downstream the SDU itself.
The SDU shall be stabily supported on top of the seabed by a supporting structure/foundation designed in
accordance with all the applicable parts of 18019.SSE.MET.FUN - “Functional Specification – Subsea
Structures”.
The SDU shall be designed in accordance with one of the following options (refer to “Data Sheet –
Subsea Distribution Units - MOD.ETI.PKG.002”):
• stand-alone module: engineered as a self-standing assembly separated from any other subsea
units part of the SPS and equipped with its own supporting structure/foundation;
• integrated: part of another subsea unit, whose supporting structure/foundation shall also cater
for the SDU.
Hereafter in this document, the term supporting structure/foundation will be used to indicate either the
actual supporting structure/foundation of the SDU if the required design option is “stand alone module”, or
the hosting unit if the required option is “integrated”.
If required by COMPANY in “Data Sheet – Subsea Distribution Units - MOD.ETI.PKG.002”, the SDU shall
be independently subsea retrievable and installable from its supporting structure/foundation.
Whenever this feature is required, it shall be possible to recover the SDU with no need to retrieve any
other item part of the SPS (e.g. flying leads, umbilicals, protective structures, other functional modules).
Proper parking positions shall be envisaged on the SDU supporting structure/foundation to park the end
terminations of all flying leads and/or umbilicals while the SDU is not in place.
• Framework
• Tie-in/hook-up connections
• Electrical/optical distribution system
• Hydraulic/chemical distribution system
• Intervention interfaces
The SDU design life shall be as stated in “Technical Data Sheet – Subsea Control System –
MOD.STA.CPP.001”.
The present document shall be read in conjunction with the project specific SDU P&IDs that represent the
arrangement of the distribution systems as well as the type and quantity of inlet and outlet connections.

5. FRAMEWORK CONSTRUCTION
The SDU structure shall be of free-flooding type, made of carbon steel and designed in compliance with
all the applicable functional requirements set out in 18019.SSE.MET.FUN – “Functional Specification –
Subsea Structures” as well as with the additional features specified in this section.
The SDU shall be designed to withstand all the loads imposed on it during fabrication, transportation,
installation, operation, recovery and intervention without transferring unacceptable deflection and loads to
the hydraulic, chemical and electrical/optical distribution systems.
Project specific scenarios for installation, relocation and recovery of the SDU with reference to its
supporting structure/foundation are detailed in “Data Sheet – Subsea Distribution Units –
MOD.ETI.PKG.002”.
Subsea corrosion protection shall be achieved by a combination of cathodic protection (to DNV RP B401)
and surface coating protection (according to the requirements set in 18003.SSE.GEN.SDS – General
design requirements for subsea system) designed for the entire design life of the SDU.
The SDU shall have 4 lifting points to allow connection of an installation lifting sling set. In order to avoid
any interface issues while connecting and disconneting the sling set to the SDU, the design of the lifting
points shall be developed by CONTRACTOR in cooperation with the project appointed organization
responsible for supplying the installation rigging.
A dedicated lifting sling set (certified to DnV 2.7-1) providing a single point top lift shall be provided by
CONTRACTOR for onshore and offshore (on-deck) handling of the SDU.
The SDU framework shall be equipped with a guiding system to assist its deployment onto the supporting
structure/foundation. In case the guidance is to be achieved by a combination of guiding posts (fixed to
the supporting structure/foundation) and funnels (integral with the SDU), the posts shall be subsea
removable and reinstallable even with the SDU in place, with the aid of ROV/diver accordingly to the
project intervention philosophy.
Spare posts shall be included in the scope of supply as loose items to allow replacement in the event one
or more of these get damaged.
For applications where a locking mechanism is required to securely fix the SDU to its supporting
structure/foundation, it shall be ROV/diver operated and it shall include a lockdown indicator for visual
confirmation of correct engagement.
In case the SDU is required to be deployed, relocated and retrieved attached to its supporting
structure/foundation, the locking mechanism shall withstand all loads encountered during such
operations.
The SDU framework shall be designed for ROV/diver operations and shall feature no potential
unaccessible points for ROV.
If a protective structure for the SDU is required in “Data Sheet – Subsea Distribution Units –
MOD.ETI.PKG.002”, it shall be designed following the requirements set out in 18019.SSE.MET.FUN –
“Functional Specification – Subsea Structures”.
SDU markings shall be in accordance with ISO 13628-1. A detailed marking schedule shall be produced
by CONTRACTOR and submitted to COMPANY for review and approval.

6. TIE-IN/HOOK-UP CONNECTIONS
The SDU shall be designed for direct tie-in of umbilical termination assemblies and/or hook-up of flying
leads as required in “Data Sheet – Subsea Distribution Units – MOD.ETI.PKG.002” and in the project
specific SDU P&IDs.
For tie-in of umbilical termination assemblies, the design of the connection system shall be in accordance
with 18020.SSE.MEC.FUN – “Functional Specification – Tie-in System”.
For hook-up of flying leads, the design of the respective hydraulic couplings and electrical/optical
connectors mounted on the SDU shall be in accordance with 18030.SSE.STA.FUN – “Functional
Specification – Subsea Control System”.
Subsea removable and installable pressure compensating devices to be temporarily fitted to the SDU
inlet connection points, shall be provided by CONTRACTOR whenever necessary to ensure pressure
balancing of the SDU hydraulic and chemical tubing during deployment of the unit.

The SDU electrical/optical distribution system shall comply with requirements stated in
18030.SSE.STA.FUN – “Functional Specification – Subsea Control System” and with the arrangement
represented in the project specific P&IDs.
For dual redundant configurations, each channel shall be kept physically segregated from the other within
the SDU. Different cables, junction boxes and connectors shall be used, so as to prevent single failure
from involving both channels of the pair.
For applications where the same electrical power and/or communication line is distributed to multiple
subsea utilities requiring a dedicated pressure-compensated distribution module (junction box or more
complex equipment according to the specific required task) to be installed within the SDU, the following
features shall be implemented if required in “Data Sheet – Subsea Distribution Units –
MOD.ETI.PKG.002”:
• stand-alone subsea retrievability and installability of the power and/or communication distribution
module. The module shall be qualified in accordance with ISO 13628-6 as a stand alone item
and, only if explicitly required in “Data Sheet – Subsea Distribution Units - MOD.ETI.PKG.002”,
the locking mechanism of the module shall have the same design of the SCM’s locking system,
so that the tool used to run/retrieve the SCM can be used for the distribution module as well;
• individual protection of the power supply/signal distruibution equipment from overload of one or
more of its output lines, allowing the other connected users to continue normal operation. The
protection shall auto-reset after normal conditions are restored, unless otherwise required in
“Data Sheet – Subsea Distribution Units - MOD.ETI.PKG.002”. If required in the same datasheet,
protection status monitoring from the topside part of the SCS shall also be included.
For applications requiring a power and/or communication distribution module equipped with electronic
logic processing equipment (e.g. a subsea router module), the module shall be qualified as dictated by
ISO 13628-6 and remote monitoring of the internal housekeeping data from the topside part of the SCS
shall be foreseen.

represented in the project specific SDU P&IDs.
It shall be possible to individually isolate the hydraulic/chemical outlets by means of isolation valves
operated by ROV/diver according with the project specific intervention philosophy.
For ROV intervention, the isolation valves shall be supplied in accordance with ISO 13628-8 requirements
for low torque rotary interfaces, with preference for type A. The ROV tool (i.e. manipulator operated
adapter to suit valve bucket) required for the operation of the isolation valves shall be supplied by
CONTRACTOR together with the SDU.
No isolation valves shall be fitted along hydraulic control fluid return lines.
9. INTERVENTION INTERFACES
All ROV interfaces shall fulfil the requirements and recommendations of ISO 13628-8 and the statements
of 18019.SSE.MET.FUN – “Functional Specification – Subsea Structures”.
