CLASS NOTES

• Rural (which means village or countryside in India)


• administration (which means an act of management).
• There are more than 6 lakh villages in India, and large machinery or management is
required to fulfil their needs like electricity, water, roads, land records, etc.
Quarrel (Which means arguments) in the village.

• Mohan was a small agricultural farmer, whereas Raghu was a big farmer, and his
family owned many fields. His uncle was the sarpanch of the village.
• One morning, Mohan noticed that the small boundary that separates the land,
known as the bund, had been shifted by a few feet, resulting in a decrease in land
area owned by Mohan and an increase in land area owned by Raghu.
• Mohan became angry and frightened but plucked up courage and went to talk to
Raghu, and heated arguments followed. Mohan was also beaten up by Raghu’s
servant.
• As per the advice, Mohan went to file a complaint with the local police station, and
with the help of his neighborhood, a written complaint was given by Mohan.
Police station and work of police

• Every police station has an area that comes under its control, and people in that area
can report cases or inform police about any crime, after which it is the duty of the
police station to inquire into and investigate the matter and take action on the cases
within its area.
• S.H.O. (Station House Officer) is the person in charge of the police station.
• The superintendent of police is responsible for all the police stations in a district.
Patwari
Lekhpal, Kanungo, Karamchari, or village officer are some of the different names for Patwari
in different states of India. Patwari is responsible for a group of villages.
Responsibilities of Patwari

• The main responsibility is to measure land, keep its records. and update them.
• Providing information about crops grown in its area to the government.

➢ All states in India are divided into districts and subdivided into tehsil, taluka, etc.
➢ The district collector is the head of revenue officers and manages administration at
the district level.

Tehsildars
Also known as revenue officers, their work is:

• They have to hear disputes.


• They supervise the work of Patwaris and ensure that records are properly kept and
maintained by them.
• They ensure farmers easily get their land copies and students can obtain their caste
certificates.
• They also hear land disputes.
Hindu Succession Amendment,2005
➢ Earlier, in Hindu families, women did not get an equal share of the family’s
agricultural land.
➢ After the death of the father, his property was equally divided among his sons.
➢ In this new law, sons, daughters, and their mothers can get an equal share of the
land, and the same law will apply to all states and union territories of India.
