Directions: Fill in each part of the App Lesson with your own original ideas.

Please look at
the sample provided on the class website. Provide 3 to 4 apps/steps for students to complete
along with a creative title, helpful description, and relevant SC teaching standards.

· There must be one app per step.

· Android apps can be used as long as all included apps are from the same platform.

· Lessons must cohesively link together 3 to 4 apps going from one focus/step of the lesson
to another.

· Lessons may include direct instruction provided the lecture contents are explained.

· Lessons may utilize web browser apps like Chrome or Safari to access website-based
tools. Link to the website in the write-up and the web browser app in the App Store web
link area.

· The final step in lessons must have students create a learning artifact from a creation-
based app (presentation, video, etc.) or screenshot of progress from a skill-based app that
students would submit to the teacher for assessment.

Title: Diversity in the United States


Relevant SC Standards:

2.CG.1 Identify cultural and ethnic groups in the U. S., explore their characteristics, and
communicate how civic dispositions build relationships between groups in a diverse society.

This indicator was developed to encourage inquiry into how civic dispositions (i.e., compassion,
cooperation, empathy, honesty, and respect) support cooperation within a diverse society.

2.CG.2 Use primary and secondary sources to research a national figure who demonstrated civic
dispositions.

This indicator was developed to encourage inquiry into past and present national figures who
demonstrated civic dispositions (i.e., compassion, cooperation, empathy, honesty, and respect)
by exploring a variety of sources, such as children’s literature, historic documents, photographs
and images, or news sources.

2.CG.3 Analyze how rights are granted to U. S. citizens through the founding documents.

This indicator was developed to encourage inquiry into the rights that are granted under the
Constitution, the Bill of Rights, and the First Amendment to understand how these individual
freedoms help form the framework of our society.
2.CG.4 Use evidence to propose and communicate a resolution to a national issue.

This indicator was developed to encourage inquiry into identifying and proposing solutions to
problems at the national level.

Description: This app lesson will develop 2nd grade students’ knowledge on the basic
information of the United States and its people and how it works.

Instructional Objective: Students will be able to present their interactive presentation to other
students using their online textbook and resources. They will use this interactive powerpoint app
and be able to define all their terms and tell the class about the diversity within the United States.

Step 1 Content-Based or Skill-Based App: Students will use their school issues IPad or their
own laptop or tablet to research within their online textbooks and other useful resources to obtain
information.

Step 2: Students will download Lumio the interactive presentation app and then they will be able
to create an account and get started with adding information onto their slides.
