Assignment # 01
Dear CS408-HCI Students,
I would like to welcome you to the course Human Computer Interaction (CS408).

In this course, you will find a project based assignment. This assignment is about the core of HCI- which
is Usability Evaluation. This project is divided into several activities. Every assigned activity will be
graded. The core purpose of this activity is to enhance your practical skills in HCI. At the end, you will be
able to learn and practice the applied and core area of HCI.

“The interaction/ usage of different mobile applications on smartphones (Samsung/iPhone/…) and share
your experience”.

Requirements of this Assignment activities:

Mode:

All activities will be carried out using Assignment and Google Docs.

Grading Scheme:

20 Marks

Your major role:

Understand mobile application functionalities and the way to use it. Observe the behavior of mobile
applications (only display) While using mobile applications.

Incase of any query you can come in VVH


sessions to resolve your issues.

Core Assignment:

Each student will go to One Child. Understand the child learning


model by observing their usage, how they perform each activity.
Teach the child about how to perform the task.

Then, ask the children to perform the task.

Observe how it is easy/difficult for the child to perform the tasks


and identify the user related issues.
Report those issues in Google Form link and on VULMS.

(NOTE: This activity may take hours for the preparation. Need much
attention and hard work in exercising this activity).

Details of activities and application gameplay is given below.

Main screen
There is a selection mode where you can select type of activities to be shown to kids
It's a sort of parental or guider control which is available after a verification panel.
Once entering the right numbers shown on screen, you are directed to panel where you can
select or deselect activities.

Below are Activities that appear randomly and each time it is new.
ACTIVITY 1 : COUNT AND MATCH
NOTE: OBSERVE THIS ACTIVITY CAREFULLY

If a child gets stuck and unable to understand what to do, after a few seconds a hand appears
that guides in a decent way.

ACTIVITY 2: SORT ACCORDING TO COLORS


Here kids are supposed to drag and match items to relevant color baskets.

ACTIVITY 3: MATCH OPPOSITES


(Note: Proper feedback is given on completing each minor task?)
ACTIVITY 4: FILL THE IMAGES WITH RELEVANT PIECE OF IMAGES

Drag and drop, in case kid drops at wrong place it gives feedback “NO NO NO”

ACTIVITY 5: MATCH SHAPES


ACTIVITY 6: POP THE BALLOONS WITH NUMBER 7

Similar activity but different motive(find P and pop P balloons)

CORNER.
2. YOU CAN CANCEL OR GO BACK TO HOME SCREEN WITH THE CROSS ARROW IN
THE TOP RIGHT CORNER.
3.THE SPEAKER BUTTON ON LEFT TOP CORNER ON TAPPING TALKS ABOUT

4.FEEDBACK IS PROVIDED ON TAPPING (EITHER POSITIVE OR NEGATIVE

1. You must fill in the google form (shared with you) from
your official VU Email ID (otherwise link will not open) with
data for each activity. (10 Marks)
