Most Essential Learning Competencies (What do you want students to know and understand?)
A1. Investigate the relationship between the amount of force applied and the mass of the object
to the amount of change in the object’s motionQA
A2. Infer that when a body exerts a force on another, an equal amount of force is exerted back on it
A3. Observe and predict natural phenomena governed by Laws of MotionQA
Performance Standard: Design and Implement an experiment that will verify Newton’s Law of Motion

LESSON 1 | NEWTON’S LAW OF MOTION

ENGAGE | How will you introduce the topic/concept and actively engage the students? Suggested Time:15
minutes
(1) Do a Think-Pair-Share activity with the following questions:
You are watching an ice hockey game. You notice that the players are able to keep moving even when they stop pushing off
with their skates. How is this possible? What would need to happen in order to stop the skater? In a Think-Pair-Share,
each student first thinks about the question individually (They may write their answer on the comment on ENGAGE post)
.After that, they discuss their ideas with the students chosen to be their think-pair buddy by their teacher by commenting
on their answer. Finally, there is a class discussion on the topic in which students share their ideas and defend their points
to the class/partner.
EXPLORE | What hands-on investigation will you let student explore with you providing guiding Suggested Time: 20
questions? minutes

bottle, four plastic caps, Tape, scissor and knife. For instructions to be posted on Edmodo together with the
WORKSHEET. You may submit it to your teacher via Edmodo Message. But for the Video Presentation of your
experiment you may post it on your Facebook account with a caption #CarBalloonRace #LawsOfMotion.
EVALUATE | How will you evaluate the students' understanding of the concept? / How will you Suggested Time: 10 mins
