CHAPTER 1
INTRODUCTION
English is a language that is rich with varying degrees of comparison, both in the
form of adjectives and adverbs. By understanding how these levels of comparison
function, English speakers can express more precise comparisons in a variety of
contexts, such as comparing two objects, describing changes, or expressing
preferences.
The importance of understanding the level of comparison also lies in its influence
in everyday communication. In conversation, academic writing, or business
presentations, the ability to use levels of comparison appropriately strengthens
one's communicative abilities, making messages clearer, persuasive, and
influencing. Therefore, this paper aims to detail the concept of degrees of
comparison, examine different types of degrees of comparison, and explore their
importance in understanding and using them in diverse English language contexts.

The color of her dress matches the color of the flowers in the garden.
The book on the shelf is the same edition as the one in the library.
This sentence implies that the book on the shelf is of the same edition as the one
