Movement Lesson Plan: Clapping Land

Title: Clapping Land

Grade Level: elementary school

Materials Needed: N/A

Procedure:

A.S: “Has anyone ever played candyland”, today we are going to go to a different land, clapping land”

1.) Teach students the song that goes along with the activity: “Come with me to clapping land,

clapping land, clapping land. Everyone in clapping land, claps their hands as long as they can” “I

wandered over land and sea, I met a man and old was he, I looked at him, he looked at, and this is

what he told me” repeat first verse

2.) Have students sing the song and learn the corresponding movements to the song

3.) Have students stand up, and find a partner, students follow along with movements to the song and

clap with their partner

4.) “I looked at him, he looked at me” students pause at this part in the song and whoever they are

standing near or across from becomes their new partner

5.) Create an outside circle and inside circle, outside circle walks clockwise, inside circle walks

counterclockwise, students stop and meet new partner and dance with new partner

6.) Then have students wander throughout the circle and see if they can find a new partner

7.) Then have students make up their own land in place of clapping land, ex. Snapping land “come

with me to snapping land” instead of clapping students will snap, “stomping land” instead of
