Name of Crop : BANANA

Potassium Deficiency
Symptoms: potassium deficiency are visible on
older leaves first. Chlorosis starts from the leaf
tips in the intercostal areas. The yellow to
orange zones coalesce and spread over the
whole leaf, subsequently followed by a dark
brown necrosis. The necrosis may also stay
limited on the marginal area, resulting in so-
called leaf scorch. K undersupply causes
shortening of internodes that leads to a bushy
shoot growth ('arrepollamiento'). Single fruit
size as well as hand and bunch size are reduced.
Treatment: Solutions. To correct a deficiency,
spread organic mulch beneath plants and apply
potassium fertilizer, preferably slow-release
forms such as potassium silicate or sulfur- or
polymer-coated potassium products. Potassium
sulfate may be used, and potassium will be held
by organic matter and clay particles.
