Middle School Lesson Reflection

Something that went well with my middle school lesson on key signatures was

my sequencing of events. I started with a review of major key solfege syllables, and

then reviewed the notes on the treble and bass staves. My lesson was using 3 rules to

help students find ‘Do’, which is the major key. After the lesson, the class had a practice

worksheet to complete. We discussed the answers as a class, then did a Kahoot to

wrap up the lesson. I could have included more material, as the lesson only covered 20

out of the 30 minutes. In a real middle school lesson, I think the students could have

used more practice material, as I only included 8 questions on the practice sheet.

Another thing I did well was walk around the room as the class was working on their

practice sheet, and checked in with each student. I also called each student up to the

board to answer 1-2 questions and talk about their answers. Because of the small

space on the whiteboard, I wasn’t able to keep the review up during the practice sheet.

If I would have used a powerpoint, I could have displayed the review while the class

was working on the practice sheet.
