A good friend is someone who has certain qualities that are
irreplaceable and crucial. If I had to choose two qualities in a
friend most important to me, I would have to say those two
qualities would be empathy and trust. These are the two
qualities that create a strong friendship.
First, living life can be very hard. Some days are difficult
and others can even be traumatic. Sometimes, a person
needs a compassionate friend to listen to their problems and
tell them that they understand. In my opinion, this is the
role of a good friend and that is why a good friend must
have empathy.
Secondly, if something very important were to happen in
my life, and I didn’t want anyone to know, I would expect my
friend to be able to keep it a secret. This requires trust. For
example, when I found out that my parents were getting a
divorce, I did not want everyone to know. I told my best
friend, and I expected that she would keep the information a
secret. This type of trust is vital for a friendship.
In conclusion, friendships come and go, but the best ones
live on forever. That is why I have decided that the most
important qualities in a friendship are empathy and trust.
