Typical conversation between eldest and youngest sisters.
Janelle: Hello, Ate. I have a problem, I need your help ☹
Jelene: What’s that? Can you share it with me? Ja: I’m afraid. Je: Afraid of what? Ja: That I might be failing a subject this sem. I think I’m failing my College Algebra course. (silence, tatango si Jel) Ja: You know that Math is not one of my strengths. You know that
I hate that subject ☹
Jel: Yes, you always say that you are not really good at Math and I understand your frustration. Do you think it is already too late to make up for your grades? Ja: I hope it’s not. Jel: You just finished your prelim exams, right? Ja: Yes. But I really believe that I would flunk again during the midterms and all of my quizzes either got a low or failing grade. It’s hopeless. Jel: I understand that you feel really hopeless right now, but I honestly believe that it is not too late to make up for your grades. Ja: I don’t have the motivation anymore. I don’t want to disappoint our parents. Jel: Uh-huh. I get that you don’t want to be a disappointment. You are scared to fail. I really believe that it is not yet too late to get good grades in College Algebra. Ja: Maybe I need to adjust my study habits and ask questions whenever something is not clear to me. Jel: I think so too. I greatly believe that your study habits will help you a lot to improve. Ja: I just don’t want to be a disappointment. (silence and deep breaths) Jel: You see, the prelims just ended and midterms just barely started. Based on your grading system, the final term has the most weight right? I really think that it is not too late. You still have a lot to make up and I know that you can do it. Ja: Yes, thank you so much for always hearing me out. You made me realize that it is really not too late and I am dwelling too much on my failure last prelims. Jel: You are very much welcome. You know that I am always here. I understand your frustrations and please know that all your feelings are valid. I know that you have your goals for this semester and I am rooting for you. You can make up for your grades through certain adjustments in your study techniques and through asking for help from your professor like you said a while back. I genuinely believe that you can do it. Ja: Thank you, Ate!
