AFFIRMATIVE SIDE (K-12)

Introduction:

Good day! In this argument, I will present the affirmative side, supporting the abolishment of the K-12
education system in the Philippines. While K-12 was implemented with good intentions, there are
several reasons why it should be abolished. K-12 education is a fundamental pillar of our society, but it is
not immune to criticism. This argument aims to explore the potential necessities of abolishing the
current K-12 education system, specifically in terms of alleviating the financial burden it places on
individuals, families, and the government.

One of the main drawbacks of the K-12 system is the excessive financial burden it places on Filipino
families. Before K-12, students received 10 years of basic education. However, with the addition of two
more years of senior high school, families now have to bear the cost of two extra years of education,
including expenses for tuition (in private schools), books, uniforms, and transportation. Removing K-12
would alleviate this financial burden and improve accessibility to education for many families. In regards
to the financial burden of individuals, by Abolishing K-12 education would relieve taxpayers from the
financial burden of funding public schools. Currently, a significant portion of taxpayers' money goes
towards financing K-12 education, which can be a heavy burden, especially for low-income families and
then there are government officials who looks like it's normal to them to request a so

-called confidential fund. (So, yeah)

By eliminating this expense, individuals would have more disposable income to allocate towards other
essential needs, such as healthcare, housing, or saving for the future.

The next reason why K-12 should be abolished is about the Public funding redirection: The funds that
are currently allocated to implement K-12 could be redirected towards strengthening the existing
educational infrastructure in the Philippines. This could include improving the quality of teaching,
investing in educational facilities, providing more resources and materials for teachers and students, and
enhancing the overall learning environment. By focusing on improving the quality of education in the
existing curriculum, students would still receive a comprehensive education without the additional
financial burden imposed by K-12.

Moreover, the next reason why k-12 must be abolished is to Reduced dropout rates: Another potential
necessity of abolishing K-12 is a reduction in dropout rates. According to some studies last October
2012, the common reasons for dropouts in the Philippines were family income not sufficient to send a
child to school. Some argue that the additional two years of education in the K-12 system may
discourage students from continuing their studies, especially those from lower-income backgrounds. By
removing this requirement, students might be more likely to complete their education and pursue
higher education or vocational training, improving their long-term opportunities for employment and
socio-economic mobility.
Furthermore, abolishing K-12 could have a positive effect on the job market by potentially increasing
employment opportunities for graduates. With the added two years of education in the K-12 system,
some students may delay entering the workforce, leading to increased competition for entry-level
positions upon graduation. By removing this requirement, graduates would be able to enter the job
market earlier, potentially reducing unemployment rates and allowing them to contribute to the
economy sooner.

And with regards to the job requirements here in the Philippines. It looks like this K-12 program is
useless because of the high standard requirements here in our country. According to statistics, after
graduating in the K12 Program, most of the companies are hiring college graduates and not the K12
graduates.

Additionally with regards to the Vocational and Skills Focus. Our country has a pressing need for skilled
professionals in various vocational industries. By abolishing K-12, the education system can be modified
to emphasize vocational training and offer specialized courses, ensuring students are equipped with the
necessary skills for employment. This would address the issue of unemployment rates among K-12
graduates who may not be suited for traditional academic pathways.

Also concerning in Flexibility and Customization. Abolishing K-12 would allow for more flexibility in
designing educational paths to meet individual students' needs and interests. With a focus on
customization, students can pursue subjects that align with their career goals, strengthening their
passion for learning and improving overall educational outcomes.

And lastly, Enhanced Quality of Basic Education. Many argue that the addition of two years in senior
high school hinders the quality of basic education. By eliminating K-12, the focus can shift back to
reinforcing the quality of education at the elementary and junior high school levels, ensuring students
have a strong foundation in fundamental knowledge and skills.

On top of that, in regards to the government's financial burden. The government’s actual education
budget in recent decades never reached 4% of the GDP, while the global standard is pegged at 6% of the
GDP, hence, the K to 12 program will be underfunded with predictably disastrous consequences.

Therefore,

Was the scale of our country’s economic structure and life conditions have somehow risen because
there are more established graduates K12 program or there is a K-12 program?
was it really de facto for the majority? Was it effectual/ effective?

Strongly no, that's why it is really necessary to abolish the K-12 program in our country.
