HAS THE INTERNET MADE SOCIETY BETTER?

Written by : Alviany Putria

Yes, I agree with the statement about the internet making society better, because I think
the internet can make it easier for us to access all information. And I also agree with the thoughts
of the former Governor of West Java, Mr. Ridwan Kamil, that the internet can be a tool to connect
people and solve problems. And the internet can also be used to build a better civilization. Here I
will discuss the positive impact of the internet on society, especially in social, technological and
educational aspects.
First, here I will explain the positive impact of the internet in social aspects. Currently the
Internet is bringing many big changes in society, with the internet it can make it easier for us to
communicate and social interaction in various parts of the world without being limited by distance
and time.
Second, I will explain the positive impact of the internet in the technological aspect.
Currently the internet has become a platform for the development of new technologies such as
artificial intelligence, machine learning and big data, which have developed rapidly thanks to the
internet. This has brought various benefits to society, such as improving the quality of life and
work efficiency.
Third, I will explain the positive impact of the internet in the educational aspect. Currently
the internet provides broad and easy access to various sources of information and learning, ranging
from books, journals, articles, videos, to simulations. This allows students to learn independently
and in depth, and access information relevant to their interests and needs.
owever, some people do not agree with the statement about the internet making society
better because the internet also has a negative impact in the social aspect, such as the internet has
changed people's social interaction patterns, people now interact more virtually than in person,
this can causes a decline in social skills and empathy. Furthermore, from a technological aspect,
cybercrime can take various forms, such as ransomware attacks, identity theft and online fraud.
Cybercrime can harm individuals and organizations financially, psychologically, and even
physically. Finally, from the educational aspect, the use of the internet in learning must be done
appropriately in order to provide effective results. However, if internet use is not done properly,
this can actually cause learning to be ineffective. For example, if students only use the internet to
look for answers to questions without understanding the material, then this will not help them in
learning.
The conclusion that we can draw from the discussion above is that the internet has had a
significant impact on society, both in positive and negative terms. People just need to be wise in
using the internet so they can take advantage of the positive impacts of the internet and minimize
the negative impacts
