WHY DIDN’T I? “Altruistic Love”

by Fely P. Duran by Christia Mae Ibona

With a heavy heart, I asked myself why, In a world swallowed by selfish ways,
Why didn’t I hug you often? A selfless love appears and stays.
While trying to go on writing this, It’s a flame that burns with pure intent,
My papers are in a flood of tears. A love that’s selfless, heaven-sent.

I know no amount of tears can bring you back With wide open arms, it welcomes all,
You’re gone, you really are gone. A selfless love, both big and small.
It heals all wounds, like a soothing balm,
“We can meet again somewhere”, your favorite song Offering solace, bringing calm.

In times of darkness, it lights the way,
But can we really? A selfless love, a guiding ray.
In hearts kind and pure, love takes its flight,
Visit me in my dreams, Altruistic radiance shining so bright.
Let me know if you’re okay
‘Coz in the deathbed the streams of your tears, So let us cherish this love so rare,
That sight crushed my heart, until today. Altruistic hearts, willing to share.
With open hands and souls aglow,
But rest easy, my dear father Together in love, we’ll surely grow.
For your wisdom lives in every step I take,
In my heart, your presence will forever steer.
I love you. (Why didn’t I tell you sooner?)

“The Dream Journey of Lysandra, A Clever Tome”
by Annie Wylyn E. Gunsi

Once upon a time, in a land where dreams danced among the stars and whispers of enchantment
filled the air, there lived a young bard named Lysandra, With a heart as vast as the ocean and eyes that
held the secrets of forgotten realms, Lysandra wandered through the meadows and forests, her melodies
weaving tales of wonder and longing.
One fateful evening, as the sun dipped below the horizon and the sky painted itself with hues
of gold and amethyst, Lysandra stumbled upon a weathered tome hidden beneath a moss-covered
stone. Its pages delicate and yellowed with time, seemed to pulse with magic all their own.
With trembling fingers, she opened the book and was instantly transported to a realm known
only to the written word. Here, mythical creatures roamed free and castles touched the heavens. Lysandra’s
voice echoed through the pages, her songs giving life to characters who had long yearned for their stories
to be told.
As days turned into nights, and nights into days, Lysandra’s world blurred the lines between
reality and fiction. She became a part of the tales she sang, dancing, with fairies in moonlit glades braving
storms with valiant knights. Yet, each passing story, a piece of her own essence was woven into the
tapestry of the written world.
World of Lysandra’s enchanting ballads spread like wildfire, drawing travelers from distant
lands who sought to hear, her songs. The once hidden tome became a beacon, attracting those who longed
to escape their mundane lives and find solace within its pages. But Lysandra’s fame grew, so did the
emptiness within her heart. She realized her own story was becoming entwined with the tales she sang
and she feared losing herself completely to the world of ink and parchment.
In a moment of clarity, Lysandra penned her final ballad-one of farewell and rebirth. With a
voice imbued with all the magic she had channeled; she sang of a world where stories were treasured
but never allowed to consume those who told them. As her song echoes through the land, the tome closed
and Lysandra was released from its enchantment.
She already returned to her own world, carrying with her the lessons of her journey. No longer a mere
bard, Lysandra became a guardian of stories, ensuring that each tale found its voice without extinguishing
her own. And so, in the land where dreams dance among the stars, Lysandra’s songs continued to inspire
and captivate a reminder that within every story lies the power to create, transform and ultimately set free.

‘The Woes of Rookie Teachers’
by Shiela Restie Tapanan

Maria was a new teacher, bright and merry who thought that teaching would pave the way for better and carefree
life. However, she would soon discover that teaching was not a typical job confined in the classroom at all.

In the school year 2021-2022, the Department of Education has decided to conduct a blended learning
style which Maria assumed would be an easy task, to reach out to the parents and students, prepare the modules
and other necessary documents. Alas, it was like squeezing water from a stone urging her to take some of the ad-
ditional task’s home to pull an all-nighter. This became the norm until she was informed of the preparation for the
upcoming checking of forms. The coordinator told her to start collecting the PSA and the Form 10 of the students
which left her baffled since it was still the third quarter of the school year. Maria thought that it was too early but
nevertheless, as a rookie, she did her best and sought her parents once again.

Then one day, on a bus filled with people on her way home from school she realized her arms were sore
and her back was aching. It reminded her of those days as a student teacher and laughed at her realization that
teaching might not be as difficult as it seems and was just making a mountain out of a molehill. She renewed her
vigor and told herself that she was equipped with the knowledge and skills. However, her smile became strained
when she carried her bags to get off the bus and walked a mile to her house. She had to take breaks once she saw
how both her arms turned red and a pattern was now seen as if engraved to her skin; nevertheless, she continued
walking home thinking of moving her game night to another week to save time for the papers need to be checked
and recorded. This experience continued and has now unknowingly become a habit.

The days turned to weeks and into months she has settled a routine that was turned upside down by an-
other announcement where the school will shift from blended learning to face-to-face with each section to set A
and set B following a certain schedule. Some of her colleagues expressed satisfaction and excitement while others
were overwhelmed and dumfounded to see another adjustment to make just like how she needed to move her
binge-watching activities to call the parents and made them understand why it was necessary.
The school started to get noisy, which was completely different from when she first arrived. She was now smiling
and nodding to numerous students coming on her way like water in a stream filling up the solemn hallways. The
teachers had limited time to do their documents from writing, typing, and printing. The students were now the
priority, and she was happy that everything was coming back to normal except for some minor changes such as
from carrying a handbag and Eco bags to a backpack and several tote bags. Those changes prompted her to extend
her bedtime, drawing her to open her collection of teas and coffee which she was fond of as a student. It helped
her write her DLP and WHLP and housekeeping the forms that she has received from the office while answering
occasional calls from concerned parents.

As the fourth quarter was coming the inevitable happened, from preparing the list of students with the
achievers, finalizing the forms, and compiling the necessary MOV’s for the RPMS. This was the time that she spent
ages scrolling the pictures in different group chats hoping to collect pictures with her in it while sighing at her
negligence. The weeks went by and now she was smiling brightly like the sun as she passed all her portfolios while
mentally congratulating herself for finishing all of it before the deadline. She stashed again her collection of coffees
and the colorful bags in her bottom drawer then carefully uploaded her lesson plans, lecture presentations, and
other instructional materials to the google drive. The school year 2021-2022 has ended and she was now confident
that the next school year would be a piece of cake which encouraged her to do online window shopping looking
for the appropriate decorations for her classroom and other materials. A notification chimed in her phone and was
startled to see that it was their grade level coordinator who sent her a message which for some unknown reason
sent her heart smashing to her ribcage. Her hand instinctively clicked the message. The only words that seemed to
register into her mind were the words ‘transfer to another grade level’ that led her to see stare at the loading tab in
her google drive, 20/198.

“Teaching really is not just teaching.” she muttered to herself while opening the google drive for shs teachers to
download new set of modules and lesson plans.

THE PEN
REFLECTION
LITERARY
Attractive Destroyer
by Renamae Lipaopao

The youth of today’s generation took advantage of the

usefulness of this golden invention. As
We can observe and notice that social media has be-
come the source of war, crime, inferiority, insecurity,
and lastly, cruelty. Along the way, as I was writing this
masterpiece, I opened my Facebook page,
Unintentionally, I read a post that showed the negative
effects of social media.
The post goes
like this “Insecure mo? ako lagi permi inyong initan”
this post really caught my attention.
Youngster of this generation usually posts their unnec-
essary emotions on social media, which
they are not aware of the negative effects. The lifestyle
and culture of the children changed
because of social media. In my elementary days, my
leisure time was spent playing, luksong-
tinik, luksong-baka, and patintero, but in this present
time children don’t know what these games
are, children nowadays spent their leisure time playing
video games and Facebook.
But we all know that things aren’t stable and perfect, it
could be better. Social media was
invented by the inventors to help people have conve-
nient ways of living. Like in doing research,
before, students are usually having a hard time doing
such research but in today’s generation,
we can easily go to different sources in different sites
to get ideas without difficulties. Or in
sending messages, the people before they are just
sending their message through telegrams
and receive it months after the date it was sent. But in
today’s generation in just one click your
message is sent already in just a few seconds, and it is
because of “social media”. On the other
hand, in getting news before people get late updates
and the information was incomplete, and
the quality was blurry the reason that they lacked
facilities. But now, in today’s generation news
updates send on time or live, and the quality of the
videos or pictures is clear. The best example
is the incident in Marawi, the people are aware and
informed on happenings every day.
Social media is an invention that harms and helps peo-
ple. It depends on you how manage the
use of this invention.
Social media is like love, she/he makes you alive and
lively but, in the end, if you abuse it and
cannot control your emotions it will bring tears and
will destroy you into pieces. Be responsible
and know your limits.
