Stomata are tiny openings or pores in plant tissue that allow for gas
exchange. Stomata are typically found in plant leaves but can also be
found in some stems. Specialized cells known as guard cells surround
stomata and function to open and close stomatal pores. Stomata allow
a plant to take in carbon dioxide, which is needed for photosynthesis.
They also help to reduce water loss by closing when conditions are hot

11
or dry. Stomata look like tiny mouths which open and close as they assist
in transpiration.

Now, look at picture below.

The true statements are . . .

A. Picture A can adapt to dry climates, they have various
modifications to reduce transpiration, one of which is the stomata
are concentrated on the lower surface of the leaves, often located
in grooves to protect the stomata from dry winds to reduce
transpiration.
B. Picture B have various modifications to increase transpiration. They
have many stomata located on the leaf surface. It aims to increase
the rate of plant transpiration and remove excess water in the body
by evaporation.
C. Picture A can adapt to dry climates with stomata scattered on the
top and bottom of the leaves so as to reduce transpiration. So that
plant on picture A can maintain their moisture.
D. Picture B can adapt to a wet climate with stomata scattered on the

Without these fuels human life, as we know it today, would have
been impossible.

WATER CYCLE

16. Look at picture below.

21
Match the statements to the following left and right rectangles. Connect
the two rectangles with a straight line.

1. The release of water molecules as a result of a. Condensation

metabolism from plants.

2. Changes in water from gas to liquid, forms b. Transpiration

black clouds that are ready to fall as rain
when it reaches saturation point.

3. Cooling and the addition of water vapor, so c. Evaporation

that the water that forms clouds reaches a
saturation point. The more water vapor that
forms in the atmosphere, the more and
heavier the water droplets in the clouds.
When the clouds are not able to
accommodate the amount of water that is
formed, then the water will be released in
the form of rain.

4. Process of water from seas, rivers, lakes, and d. Precipitation

other water bodies become water vapor
and go to the atmosphere.

e. Infiltration

For Your Information

The hydrological cycle also known as the water cycle, is a water

circulation that describes the movement of water molecules (H₂O) from
the atmosphere to the earth and vice versa, which never stops so as to
form a circular series of water molecules traveling on earth called a
cycle.

Based on picture, the best conclusion about land condition after heavy rain
are . . .
A. In land like picture A after heavy rain there is no possibility a flood.
Because still there are many trees to absorb the water rainwater. Soil
absorption is influenced by several things, it can be due to the type of
land use, soil moisture content, or green areas overgrown with trees. The
rest of water that cannot be absorbed by the soil will flow to a lower place
and enter a small channel or drainage system.
B. In land like picture A after heavy rain there is possibility a flood. Because
there are enough trees to absorb the water rainwater. Soil absorption is

23
influenced by several things, it can be due to the type of land use, soil
moisture content, or green areas overgrown with trees. The rest of water
that cannot be absorbed by the soil will flow to a lower place and enter
a small channel or drainage system.
C. In land like picture B after heavy rain there is possibility a flood. Because
there are no trees to absorb the water rainwater. Soil absorption is small,
the lack of green areas overgrown with trees. This water that is not
absorbed by the soil will flow to a lower place and enter into small
channels or drainage systems that usually exist in settlements. If the
drainage is not good, the water cannot be absorbed by the soil and
causes flooding in the area.
D. In land like picture B after heavy rain there is a little possibility a flood.
Because even though there are no trees to absorb the water rainwater,
the land in picture B still has absorption for the water. The water that
cannot be absorbed by the soil will flow to drainage system.

18. Precipitation is the process when the water in the clouds gets too heavy,
the water falls back to the earth. There are some kinds of precipitation in
this earth. Match the following types of precipitation, characteristics, and
phenomena pictures.

19. In a small village, it is very difficult to get clean and pure water for drinking,
cooking, washing, take a bath weather take ablution for pray, so a teacher
gave an instruction for her students to make an experiment about water
purifier. Then applicate it when it works.

Before they do this experiment, they have to make the experimental design.
The experimental design must be consisting of:

CARBON CYCLE

20. Look at picture below

Match the label in the picture with the suitable statement.

Label
No Statement in the
picture
1. Carbon moves from the atmosphere to organisms. In the
atmosphere, carbon is attached to oxygen in a gas called
carbon dioxide (CO2). Through the process, carbon
dioxide is pulled from the air to produce food made from
carbon for plant growth.
2. Carbon moves from living things to the atmosphere. Each
time you exhale, you are releasing carbon dioxide gas
(CO2) into the atmosphere. Cell that doesn’t has
chlorophyll need to get rid of carbon dioxide gas through
a process.
3. Carbon moves from fossil fuels to the atmosphere when
fuels are burned. When humans burn fossil fuels to power
factories, power plants, cars and trucks, most of the carbon
quickly enters the atmosphere as carbon dioxide gas.
4. Carbon moves from plants and animals to soils. When
plants and animals die, their bodies, wood and leaves

26
bringing the carbon into the ground. Some is buried and
will become fossil fuels in millions and millions of years.

For Your Information

The carbon cycle is nature's way of reusing carbon atoms, which travel from
the atmosphere into organisms in the Earth and then back into the
atmosphere over and over again. Most carbon is stored in rocks and
sediments, while the rest is stored in the ocean, atmosphere, and living
organisms.

21. Look at picture below

27
Based on the picture, the true conclusion about the environmental health
in area like picture 1 and picture 2 due to the carbon dioxide released are
...
A. Areas like picture 1 have an unbalanced carbon cycle because the
human population living there is very dense and is not matched by the
presence of green plants. As a result, carbon dioxide produced from
human and animal populations is not much bound or fixed by green
plants. The carbon dioxide produced will accumulate in the area,
causing the air to become hot and humid. In addition, oxygen levels
are also low due to the absence of almost no green plants. Low oxygen
levels and humid air can cause many diseases and affect the health of
its citizens.
B. Areas like picture 2 have a more balanced carbon cycle because the
human population living there is less dense and there are still lots of
green plants. Only a small amount of carbon dioxide is produced
because the human and animal populations are also small. There is
more oxygen produced there than carbon dioxide, which causes the
air there to be cold. So that the health of residents in this area is not
good. Residents often feel cold at night.
But the air in this area is still
cool because not many tall buildings and factories have been built.
D. Areas like picture 2 have a more balanced carbon cycle because the
human population living there is less dense and there are still lots of
green plants. Carbon dioxide produced by human and animal
populations can be maximally bound or fixed by green plants.
Furthermore, plants will produce oxygen. A lot of oxygen will make
people live healthy. The temperature there is also cooler because the
carbon dioxide is not high.

22. Theoretically in the experiment, the blown air contains carbon dioxide, the
carbon dioxide contained in the blown air will react with calcium hydroxide

28
in lime water and produce calcium carbonate, a compound that causes
lime water to become cloudy. If during the experiment the lime water
becomes cloudy, it is proven that the blown air contains carbon dioxide.
Before doing this experiment, you have to make an experimental design
first so that the experiment can run well. The experimental design made
must consist of:
 Title
 Problem Formulation
 Purpose
 Hypothesis
 Variables (Manipulation, control, response)
 Apparatus and Materials
 Steps
