Objectives: By the end of the lesson the Ss. will be able to:
1) Cognitive Objectives:
- describe/talk about past actions and activities past actions
- use Past Simple and Past Continuous in real instances of communication.
- make up sentences and short dialogues using the acquired grammar structures.
2) Affective Objectives:
- to create a warm atmosphere in order to offer the background for smooth, easy
conversations between T. and Ss.
- to help Ss. become more confident when speaking English.
- to stimulate Ss’ imagination and creativity
STAGES OF THE LESSON:
1. ORGANIZATIONAL MOMENT
Procedure: T. connects to google meet and greets the Ss.
Aim: -to assure the introductive part of the lesson.
Skills: speaking
Techniques: Informal conversation, questioning & answering.
Interaction: T-Ss; Ss-T; T-S, S-T
Class management: whole class activity
Timing: 2’
4. LEAD-IN:
Aim: - to assure a proper transition and continuity between the stages of the lesson.
- to encourage Ss express themselves using Past Simple & Past Continuous in
everyday communication situations
Procedure: T. revises quickly the past simple of certain verbs and generates the Padlet
Wall to post some verbs. Ss. add the post with their answers. To check correct
pronunciation T asks Ss. to post also audio recordings. Then T pairs the Ss to work
together and make up a list with the things didn’t do yesterday and at least 2 or 3 similar
things they were doing at the same time yesterday (“What were you doing at 7 o’clock
this morning?” “I was taking a shower” “So was I!”). Allotted time 2 minutes. Ss post
their list on the wall and T. acts out a short role-play with one of the students asking why
he /she didn’t do a particular activity. The student has to answer using the past
progressive. Then names 4 pairs of Ss to do the same.

5. ACTIVITY 1: PRESENTATION
Aim: - to assure a proper transition between the stages of the lesson and thus a better
comprehension of the grammatical notion for the students.
- to make a short revision of Past Simple and Past Continuous uses.
Procedure: T. asks the Ss. about the use of Past Simple and its formation. T. writes on the
Jam board sentences with past simple and past continuous to help students discriminate
between the uses of each tense. As T. explains the uses, asks Ss to make sentences and
give examples of their own.

7. ACTIVITY 3: PRODUCTION
Aim: - to consolidate the use of Past Simple, Past Continuous and the irregular verbs.
Procedure: T. plays the online game ʺ Spin itʺ to check the forms of certain irregular
verbs. T. tells Ss they are going to play an online games and explains the rules of the
game and the task. Ss have to pick a number from 1 to 8, click on it, look at the image
and make sentences using Past Simple and Past Continuous. T. provides Ss with an
example. T. shares screen to work on online worksheet with past simple & past
continuous. Ss. are asked to answer as they are randomly named by the teacher.

8. EVALUATION
Aims: - to increase Ss.’ self-confidence and encourage them in their study of English.
Procedure: T. assesses the results of the class and their involvement in the class development.
The teacher evaluates students’ answers and draws conclusions. T. appreciates Ss. ` activity both
verbally -praising their activity- and by giving marks.

9. HOMEWORK
Aims: - to consolidate and use the acquired grammar structures by working at home
Procedure: T. asks Ss. to look for a past photo of theirs and to write a short description of it.
They should say how old they were, when and where the photo was taken, what was happening
when it was taken, what the other persons in the photo were doing at that time. The next English
class they have to present it to their classmates and describe it orally.
