M1L1: Rizal Law | While task 1

The three things that I significantly learned from the videos and the readings are; objectives of theRizal
law, utilization of patriotism, and hindrances under the preceding acceptance of RA 1425.Briefly, RA
1425 is an act that includes life, works, and writings of Rizal in the curricula. Itintends to revive history,
pay tribute to our national heroes and furnish students with intentionto love our nation. Lastly, prior to the
approval of Rizal law, catholic churches gave dispute andultimatum against, due to the violation of
freedom conscience, and religion.

The first thing that is unclear to me is, given that Dr. Rizal has never been explicitly proclaimed as the(or
even a) national hero by the Philippine government, why did they choose Rizal as a modelfor younger
generations out of countless heroes? Second, according to professor Xiao, the lawaims to nurture
patriotism within Filipinos and provide knowledge about history, are courseslike history in the
Philippines inadequate? and will we become nationalist enough? Lastly, whydo we study the law ‘RA
1425’ in life, works, and writings of Rizal course?.

I used to think that the subject ‘life, works, and writings of Rizal’ and reading of Noli Me Tangere andEl
Filibusterismo are not compulsory and only taken by selective field of courses. Also, I just
recentlydiscovered that there is no proof that Rizal wrote “Sa aking mga kabata’ and also used to think
that heis our ‘official’ national hero .

The three questions that I want to ask about the movies and the readings are:

1. What happened to the assumptions of catholic churches, that implementing this law would take
awaythe faith of youth?
2. Are catholic churches and priests still against Rizal law up to this time?
3. Finally, Do catholic schools required their students to read Noli Me Tangere and El
Filibusterismoeven if they are exempted?
