Environment, climate change

 Global warming and climate change refer to an increase in average global

temperatures. Human activities are believed to be contributing to this;
greenhouse gases, pollution, deforestation, oil spills, exhaust fumes, …

 Rising global temperatures will speed the melting of polar ice caps. This
melting can have serious consequences for all organisms on Earth. Besides
being important for marine life, ice caps help regulate sea level and global
temperatures.

 Climate change causes natural disasters. In the last years it is clear that they
have increased in number, and are more devastating (tsunamis, floods,
droughts, hurricanes …)

 There are many endangered species because of climate change. The loss of
biodiversity we are seeing today has negative effects on several aspects of
human well-being, such as food security. When a species becomes extinct the
food web is affected and therefore the whole ecosystem changes or is even
destroyed.

 What can we do to fight against climate change?

 Commitment to sustainable development, renewable energies: solar

energy, wind power and others.
 Recycling. There are different containers for different types of waste.
 Yellow for plastic packaging, tetra pak, cans, …
 Blue for paper and cardboard.
 Green for glass containers and bottles.
 Avoiding disposable products (items that are intended to be thrown
away after use).
 Government incentives for plug-in electric cars should be established.
