BioFlo® 110 Modular Benchtop Fermentor/Bioreactor

BioFlo 110 is an easy-to-use, cost-effective and convenient modular microbial fermentor and/or cell culture
bioreactor system. Individual components may also be purchased to expand any kit at any time, to meet changing needs. Features
multi-language PCU, and choice of autoclavable vessels, 1.3 to 14 L (total volume).

BioFlo 110 System Controllers And Actuators

1. PCU (Primary Control Unit) - an easy to use 32-loop controller
with bright display, supports from one to four vessels. It provides
the interface for all control functions.
2. Levels/Foam Controller - accepts up to three
conduction probes for automatic control of antifoam, addition
and media addition/removal.
3. pH/dO2 Controller - supports one pH and one dissolved oxy-
gen probe. Requires acid base addition pumps and/or the four
gas controller for pH control.
4. Power Controller - supports temperature and agitation control
in one vessel, and also has 5 controlled power outlets for liquid
addition pumps.
5. Thermal Mass Flow Controller (TMFC) - TMFC replaces the
rotameter to provide automated gas flow control. Advantages
include a digital display of the gas flow rate on the PCU; with the
ability to log gas flow data using an optional data acquisition
package, such a BioCommand® Lite or BioCommand Plus.
6. Gas Mix Controller - four valves allow automatic rationing of
two, three, or four gasses (air, oxygen, carbon dioxide and
nitrogen) for gentle regulation of pH and dO2 in cell culture, and
for oxygen enhancement in fermentation. Works together with
the pH/dO2 controller.
7. Four-Pump Module - four independent PWM peristaltic
pumps utilize Watson Marlow 101 pump heads. Use for acid
and base, antifoam, nutrient additions, and perfusion. One
four-pump module may be shared by multiple vessels.
8. Vessel Stand - used with a heat-blanketed vessel.
9. Heat Blanket (HB) - wraps around vessels, adding heat when
required to maintain vessel contents at temperature setpoint.
The blanket has two large windows for viewing.
10. Sterile Sampler - a syringe-activated device for removing
media samples without contaminating the culture. The sampler
installs in a headplate port. Samplers are sized to vessels.
11. Direct Drive Shaft - available in fermentation & cell culture
vessels.
12. Exhaust Condenser - essential in most applications for keeping
exhaust filters dry and vessel contents from evaporating during
culture.
13. Magnetic Drive Shaft - only available in cell culture vessel.
14. Addition Bottles - for acid, base and additions; can be mounted
directly to vessel stand.
15. Jacket Water Heater - used with water jacket
vessel. The heater controls jacket water heater temperature to
maintain vessel’s temperature setpoint.

BioFlo® 110 Components & Vessel Accessories

Septum - installs in a 12mm headplate port to enable additions
by syringe, such as inoculum.
Baffle Assembly - a removable assembly of flat stainless-steel
panels that protrude from the fermentor vessel wall to create
turbulence in the media, improving mixing and aeration of
vessel contents. Baffles are not used with shear-sensitive
mammalian or insect cells.
Foam Trap - this liquid trap installs between the exhaust
condenser and filter to catch liquid that inadvertently passes
through the condenser.
Tri-port Adapter - a three-addition fitting that requires only
one 12 mm headplate port.
Angled Autoclave Rack - reduces the autoclave chamber
height requirement by cradling 7.5 & 14 L vessels off the vertical.
Probe Adapter - retains 12 mm probes with a headplate-
mounted compression fitting that won’t "bake" onto the probe
surface. Allows continuous penetration-depth adjustment.
Sparge Ring - a headplate mounted air-inlet tube. The
immersed end forms a perforated ring that sits directly beneath
the impeller blade tips for efficient oxygenation.
pH/dO2 Controller Kit - includes one pH/dO2 controller, pH &
dO2 probes sized to the vessel, adapters and cables.
