Nursing Care for Edema Management

The patient presented with edema in the lower extremities. Vital signs were notable for elevated blood pressure. The nurse monitored intake and output, advised elevating the feet and restricting fluids. Furosemide was administered per the physician's order, which reduced the edema. Abnormal lab results showed electrolyte imbalances and kidney dysfunction. The nurse established rapport, monitored adherence to treatment, and checked labs and urine. Peritoneal dialysis was ordered. The patient experienced nausea, vomiting, and itchiness. The nurse provided rest, monitoring, education, and administered antiemetics and topical treatments as prescribed to relieve symptoms.
