Kayla tells about her trip

PP Rotarian Pat Sands introduced, Kayla Penson Rotary Exchange Student last year who visited Finland. Kayla discussed her host families and experiences and passed out her personal pictures. She found her trait of being naturally loud in a quiet country of Finland required her to adjust her voice volume. She talked about the attention to real sauna experiences including using the birch tree branches. She shared the wool balls and other artifacts Pat Sands gives a great intro for Kayla she learned to make. Language was very hard to learn, her host mother shared bathroom signs so she would use the right one. She had to learn to roll the rs and carry out the letters as the Finnish do. She did have a teacher who taught Finnish language. Kayla found the Food was very plain little use of spices. Fish, wheat, rye were primary food. She was impressed on how much they make own meals rarely go out to eat. Rotary did provide an additional trip to Russia and she was St. Petersburg, Russian ballet and many historical sites. She also went on Rotary Euro tour for 2 weeks and visited Monaco, Paris, Germany an Italy. She mentioned in school academics was very serious activity and upon

graduation top achievers were awarded the White Hat very big deal an worn proudly at future school events in the community. The membership was impressed with the experience of Kayla an provided a large round of applause to her presentation.
Kaylas proud mother, Paula, looks on
