1. What is the title of the text and what is the text about?
The text, titled "Prejudice and the Economics of Discrimination" by Charles and Guryan (2007),
a study on racism in the fields of work and the difference in wages between whites and blacks,
its effects, and solutions.

2. What is the author’s view? How do I know?


The view of Charles and Guryan (2007) it clarifies the important points, using Baker's study on
first the racial differences in wages, as well as the racial gaps caused by racism, and finally the
importance and how to solve them.

3. What is the evidence presented by the author to support ideas?


Evidence presented by Charles and Guryan (2007) used to support their thesis through the study
that Baker (1957) undertook in economic racism and its impact on wages, and the creation of
racial gaps “This paper tests the predictions about the relationship between racial prejudice and
racial wage gaps from Becker’s” (para.1).

4. Is the evidence valid? How do I know?


The abstract does not contain evidence proving the validity of this study, Charles and Guryan
(2007) relied to prove the validity of their study on the Baker study “This paper tests the
predictions about the relationship between racial prejudice and racial wage gaps from Becker's”
(para. 1).

5. Is the evidence relevant? How do I know?


The evidence that Charles and Guryan (2007) used is relevant to the topic of the abstract at hand,
because they both speak of ethnic discrimination, its implications, and the importance of
overcoming it.

6. Have I heard/read anything similar or dissimilar? What was it?


Many times, satellite TV, the media, and sometimes social networking sites shed light on the
issue of racial discrimination, whether socially or economically, according to Asmelash that
Michelle Obama stated in CNN, “It's up to all of us—Black, white, everyone—no matter how
well-meaning we think we might be, to do the honest, uncomfortable work of rooting it out."
(Asmelash, para.1).

7. Do I agree or disagree with the views expressed by the author? Why?


Each of the authors talked about a topic that most regions of the world suffer from and explained
important information and points about the dangers of ethnicity and racism and their economic
and social impacts, which is what people really need at the present time to stop racism, develop
minds, increase intellectual and economic growth and openness for all people without stopping at
racial differences.
