In view of severe monsoon in Mumbai, please find below the basic safety tips to mitigate
the hazards associated with rain:

Avoid slippery surface - Prevent Slip and fall injuries:

1. Keep floors dry at all times.


2.Clean any water spills immediately.
3. Use dry mopping after conducting floor cleaning.
4. Put door mats at main entrance and washroom doors. Make it a habit to keep sandals
and shoes in dry conditions.
5. Mark areas at sites & homes that are prone to water spills / water slippages.
6. Use shoes with proper groves while walking on the floors especially in the slippery
surfaces.
7. Keep walkways free from obstacles & clutter.
8. Cover any cables that cross walkways and highlight them with caution/zebra marking
tapes.
9. Keep working areas & walkways properly illuminated.
10. Ensure all the drains are clean and there is no water logging due to unclogged drains.

Electrical safety tips during rains:

1. Don't touch any electric wires - you are not sure whether they are dead or live.
2. Unplug all the electrical appliances.
3. Keep all electrical appliances in dry conditions.
4. Take care of electric gadgets, cords and sockets. Before plugging in inspect them
thoroughly.
5. Replace any existing faulty switches and other electrical fixtures.
6. Keep First aid box readily available at site and in your home.
7. Keep the inverter in charged and well-maintained conditions to prepare for long
duration power cuts.
8. Keep torch & candles handy in case of sudden power outages.

General Safety tips to be followed during rains:

1. Make sure windows and doors are shut properly.


2. Keep umbrella/raincoat handy for outside travel if req.
3. Avoid walking in the rain in case it is not essential.
4. Beware of snakes, mosquitoes and other deadly insects in the vicinity
Safety tips for Safe Driving during rains:

1. Avoid driving in heavy rains, thunderstorms and lightning conditions. Wait until the
weather improves.
2. Double check all the car equipment’s.
3.Check the condition of tyres. Ensure proper grooving of tyres to maintain sufficient
friction between tyres and roads.
4. If at all driving in rains cannot be avoided, drive very slowly (less than normal speed
limit).
5. Turn on the car headlights while driving in rains.
6. Maintain more than minimum required safe distance between cars (approx. 5 mtrs) as
during rains the braking distance of vehicles increases and there are possibilities of
accidents due to this.
7. Avoid heavy braking.
8. Watch out for standing waters on roads. Try to avoid them as much as possible.
9. Never Park the vehicles beneath the trees. Also, in case of heavy rains don't look for
shelter under the trees. Avoid them as much as possible.
10.Use the windshield wipers repeatedly to ensure clear visibility.
11. Ensure proper ventilation inside the cars.
12. Obey all basic traffic rules.

Safety tips for pedestrian movement during rains:

1. Don't run. Walk slowly and carefully.


2. Be visible. Wear bright patterned clothes/fabrics.
3. Don't use mobile phones while walking.
4. Beware of the location of electric poles in your area. Never touch an electric pole.
5. Watch out for fallen electric wires while walking on roads.
6. Avoid walking in water logged streets.
7. Watch out for manholes and other trip hazards on roads. As a general practice, while
walking in the rains, try to follow the path taken by other people in your vicinity as less
hazard is expected there. Don't try for any short cuts / unknown pathways.
8. Take care of weak and vulnerable people in case you spot them while walking.
9. Don't walk / leave home in case of thunderstorms, lightning and heavy rains.
10. Stay away from trees and parks during rains.
11. Identify potential falling objects like tree branches, window panes, any temporary
structure in the vicinity and stay away from them.
12. Watch out for snakes and deadly insects in the vicinity.
