Engine Stop Procedures and Safety

This document provides instructions for stopping an engine within the framework of decommissioning. It describes connecting and disconnecting the engine from the mains, adjusting the speed to a minimum level using switches, and activating buttons to stop the engine normally. It also lists an emergency stop procedure involving levers or solenoid valves to manually stop the engine, and external emergency stop devices. A function diagram is included to illustrate the remote control functions.

Decommissioning/Stopping
A3.07.18.02

M20/M25/M32/M43

Within the framework of this decommissioning, only the stoppage of the engine at the main engine
is discussed. The functions of the remote control are documented with a function diagram and its
description if it is included in the scope of supply of the Caterpillar / MaK, see Book C.

Attention:

Avoid abrupt stopping after on-load operation!

Before stopping the engine, run for approximately 5 minutes at low load or no-load! If the
engine must be stopped under load, always aftercool, see "Aftercooling"!

Direct operation at the main engine

• Disconnect engine from the mains. Switch main power switch to "Off".

Engine stop (control panel in manometer board)

• Switch change-over switch S13 to "1 = Engine".

• Adjust speed to nmin at the speed switch R1.

Note:

In the case of a failure of the electronic-electrical controller, the speed adjustment can be
performed at the speed switch of the mechanical-hydraulic controller!

• Activate push-button switch S12 "Stop".

• Close air bottles and shut off valve at the fuel service tank.

Engine emergency stop

• Put emergency-off leaver (10) in the stop position at the control station/regulation linkage or

• Stop engine manually at the stop solenoid valve (11) or

• Activate external emergency stop device.

• Close air bottles and shut off valve at the fuel service tank.
