Task 1
A man wants to attach a gutter to his open gable roof. The length of the roof is 10m and
the height of the gutter is greater than 3cm of breadth of it.

1.1 (a) If the crossed area of the gutter is 28cm2, find the height & breadth of it.
(b) If the roof lay on 100m2 horizontal area and the perpendicular height of it from

the gutter level is 4.2m. Find the slant height of the roof. (P 1.1)
1.2 (a) The man wants to lay sheets for his roof and the surface area of a sheet is 11m2.

When sheets were laid on, it overlaps 0.12m2 from each sheet. If the price of a sheet
it rs.1500, how much does he have to spend for it?

(b) When rain fallen 1l per square meter per second vertically, how many pipes he
want to attach to the gutter to run-off the total water without any disturbance? (let

the radius of pipe as 4cm) (P1.2)

(Mention your assumptions and theories that you used to solve the problem and
draw appropriate diagrams to build the answer.)

Task 2
2.1 When the top T of a mountain is viewed from point A, 2000 m from ground, the
angle of depression ‘a’ is equal to 15o and when it is viewed from point B on the

ground the angle of elevation ‘b’ is equal to 10o. If points A and B are on the same
vertical line, find the height h of the mountain. (Round answer to three decimal

place). (P 2.1)

7
2.2 In this instrument the end surface is 5 cm2. Its cross section area change as
where x is distance from end surface. Find the volume of this instrument using

Simpson’s rule when its length is 8 cm and divide the total length into 10 equal parts.
Suggest another method to solve above problem and recommend which method is

much appropriate. (Solve the problem for considering four decimal numbers) (P2.2)

Task 3

manufactured by a company.

3.1 Constructs a frequency distribution of the diameters using appropriate class

intervals. (P 3.1)
3.2 Evaluate variance of the distribution.(P 3.2)

3.3 Five hundred ball bearings have a mean weight of 5.02 oz (ounce) and a standard
deviation of 0.30 oz. Find the probability that a random sample of 100 ball bearings
chosen from this group will have a combined weight,
(a) Between 496 and 500 oz
(b) More than 510 oz.

(Write down all assumptions and mention all your reasons for your decisions what you
made)
(Hint: if the population is of size N, if sampling is without replacement, and if the
sample size is , then

Task 4
4.1 Using the method of section, or otherwise, determine the force in the members GF
and HF for the truss shown below. Hence determine the magnitude of the forces in the

members meeting at joint G. (P4.1)

9
4.2 A man want to construct a pond in his garden. But he has a rectangle shaped of area

with 4m length and 2m width to build this pond and it should be irregular shape. The
shape of pond is same as covered by and as shown in the

figure. If the height of the pond is going to be 1m, find the volume of the water that
pond can contain. (P 4.2)
