Purpose of the Assignment:
By completing this assignment, you will have an opportunity to develop an understanding of the
principles and application of project management in construction and built environment sector.
Scenario:
Assume that you are a technical officer assigned to a construction project of Rs.500 million multi-
storied building located in a highly built-up area in Colombo. The project manager of this project has
requested you to submit a report on project management function of the project.
In your study and report, you will demonstrate your understanding of project management and the
role of project manager. This will also be your opportunity to understand how the client’s objectives
affect the project and how these objectives can be achieved through successful project management.
You will further understand how project management can add value to the given construction
project.
Task 1.1:
Describe the project management practices applicable to the proposed project. (P1.1)

Evaluate the role of the project manager of the proposed project. (P1.2)

In order for the successful completion of above project, evaluate the key characteristics required of
