A. Reviewing previous lesson or The Teacher will briefly introduce Guy de Maupassant, the author
presenting the new lesson of the story "The Necklace".

Guy de Maupassant was a French writer, considered one of the


greatest short story writers of all time. He was born on August 5,
1850, and died on July 6, 1893.

Maupassant's work is often characterized by its economy of style


and efficient, effortless dénouements. Many of his stories are set
during the Franco-Prussian War of the 1870s and vividly describe
the French society of his time. His stories explore complex
relationships and characters, and his writing style has influenced a
great number of writers.

century. It's a time when class divisions were distinct and
social mobility was limited.
c) Summary

Mathilde, is a beautiful and charming woman who is born


into a modest family of clerks. Despite her humble background,
she has high social aspirations and dreams of a life filled with
luxury, elegance, and wealth. She believes that she was meant
for a life of refinement and has always been dissatisfied with
her own status.

She marries a simple clerk who works in the Ministry of Education.


Her husband, Monsieur Loisel, adores her and does his best to
make her happy within his means. However, Mathilde always feels
that she deserves more and yearns for a lifestyle that they cannot
afford.

One day, Monsieur Loisel comes home with an invitation to a


prestigious party hosted by his boss. He thinks that Mathilde would
be thrilled to attend such an event, but instead, she is upset
because she doesn't have anything suitable to wear. Seeing her
distress, Monsieur Loisel uses his savings, initially meant for a
