The 9 video marketing

mistakes you’re making

...that are EASY to fix

By Miranda Pearce
1 Mistake: You look at yourself!

I get it.

It's worrying doing video.

Will I have a snot hanging out?

Is my hair sticking up?

But, guys, please stop looking at yourself as you film.

You're wasting a GOLDEN opportunity to make eye contact with

your audience.

If you stopped looking at patients in the eye face-to-face, how do

you think that would go?

It's exactly the same with marketing. You need to look at the
camera hole at the top of your phone not yourself on the screen.

It will make your audience feel you're talking directly to their soul,
instead of checking out your bad hair day.

Look at the camera hole
at the top of your phone
not at yourself
2 Mistake: You hold your phone

Obviously this doesn't apply if you're walking and filming, or if you're

just doing a 15 seconds video.

But, anything over 1 minute, rest your phone on something so you

don't make the audience sea sick.

For years, I rested my phone in between kids' felt tip pens on top of
a wine box and that worked perfectly. 😎 ➔

“ don't make the

audience sea sick!
3 Mistake: Your title is boring
(or, worse, no title at all)

You MUST add a grabby title to your video, or risk way fewer people
even starting to watch.

A good title should:

a) Get their attention for example: 'I don't normally share personal
stories, but...'

b) Show your audience what's in it for them to watch for example:

'How to stop wasting money on your skin care regime'

You must add a
grabby headline
4 mistake: You don't tell a story in
your video
In September, my son, Xander started school. It didn't go well. The
little love was very, very unhappy about leaving us, and the teacher
practically had to drag him away from us on the first day.

At first our strategy was to reassure him. To tell him it was going to be
ok. But, we soon realised he was barely listening, so focused as he
was on his pain.

That's when Tim told him a story.

He told his about his own experience of being 5 in South Africa.

As you can see from this picture, the cogs in Xander's mind started to
tick over. He actually listened, and for the first time in a while, he
accepted his fate.

Story won the day!

Humans are hardwired for stories. We've told them to each other
round campfires or on cave walls for millennia.

I promise you, if you tell stories in your marketing videos from your
life, or from your patients' lives (with consent obvs), your posts will
stop getting tumbleweeds, and start getting engaged followers.
5 Mistake: Your videos are
too long

There is no formula for how long a video should be. For example, on
YouTube people are much more likely to watch long videos.

But, it's pretty rare that I watch more than 3 min videos on
Facebook and Instagram unless it's super educational, so I
recommend you don't go over that as a rule of thumb.

The main thing to remember with Facebook/Instagram videos is

make sure you don't take 5 minutes to say what could be done in 45
seconds.
6 Mistake: Introducing yourself

The first few seconds in your video are often the difference
between success and failure.

Stop wasting precious time saying, "Hi guys, Jane here from ABC
Aesthetics. Hope you're well. Sorry I've been off social media for a
while, things have been hectic. I wanted to come on today to talk to
you about...“

SOZ, BUT YOU'VE LOST ME, JANE. BYE 🖐🖐🖐

Just get straight to the point. Ideally start with the attention-
grabbing part of your story, e.g. "A patient said something to me
today that stopped me in my tracks“. 👀

Get straight to the point
7 Mistake: Thinking you need a
blow dry to do a video
This one winds me RIGHT up.

Just NO.

NO, you do NOT need to look like you did on your wedding day just
to do a 1.5 min video on your page!

When I offered my marketing mentee opportunity recently, I was

privileged to watch 72 application videos from you guys. Because
you guys trust me, the vast majority were rough and raw, and I'll let
you in on a little secret...

They were WAY better than normal marketing videos.

Why?

Because you were blummin speaking from the heart, and that's
what good marketing is.
8 Mistake: Not asking them for
an ACTION
You've psyched yourself up. You've planned your video. You've
filmed it. People watched it. They even think it's good!

You wait for the likes, comments and enquiries to come rolling in
😃

Nada. Nothing. Zilch!

You forgot to ask for the sale/engagement.

Humans are busy. We've got stuff to do, and cat videos to watch.

YOU HAVE TO TELL US WHAT TO DO!

Tell us to 'Like if you agree', or 'Drop me a DM if you're interested in

a consultation’.

If you don't, we'll keep on scrollin.

9 Mistake: Doing only 1 video

I am good at video...

Now.

Was I good at video in 2016 on my first Facebook Live (check out

the photo)?

No!

How did I get good at video? 🤔

Well, how did you get good at your day job?

BY DOING IT A LOT!

Practice makes perfect, but if you do 3 videos a year, guess what?

You ain't gunna get perfect.

However, if you turn up for video marketing every day for a year like
you're forced to do at your day job, you will become a master.
