WHO has declared the recent Novel Corona Virus (2019-nCoV) epidemic affecting 23
countries as International Public Health Emergency of International Concern. In this
context, Government of West Bengal has strengthened the surveillance and control
measures against the disease. As on today total 10302 travelers / persons have been
screened at Kolkata & Bagdogra Airport. Till date 28 travelers from corona affected
countries have been identified and placed under surveillance, out of which 26 are
under home surveillance and 2 have been admitted in select isolation facilities. Till date
8 Samples have been sent to National Institute of Virology (NIV) Pune and ICMR-NICED,
Kolkata for testing out of which results of 6 samples came as negative and results for
the rest 2 are awaited. The health condition of all symptomatic persons under isolation
at home & in hospitals is stable. A 24x7 control room has been set up in the State Head
Quarter. Two hospitals with isolation facilities have been set up in the State at ID
Hospital, Kolkata and North Bengal MCH , Siliguri.
In the background of the present nCorona Virus outbreak, the general public is advised
to adhere to health advisories issued by the State Government. All the guidelines for
health and hygiene are posted on www.wbhealth.gov.in. People at large should follow
the cough etiquette by covering the nose and mouth using handkerchief/towel while
sneezing/coughing and do frequent hand-washing with soap and water. Those who
have arrived from the corona affected countries should remain under home isolation for
28 days from the date of arrival in India, even if they do not have any symptoms. They
should contact the Help Line no. given below in case they develop fever with cough or
difficulty of breathing during this period.
