1. WHAT IS MEDIA?

Media is the plural of medium and includes all the ways we share information, from printed items to
digital data.
It covers news, art, education, and anything that can reach people like TV, radio, books, magazines,
and the internet.
It describes all means of communication, that reach a wide range of people.

2. FUNCTIONS OF MEDIA

As a gatekeeper, the media functions to relay, limit, expand, and reinterpret information.
The four main functions (depending on the type) are: surveillance, correlation, cultural transmission,
and entertainment.
Surveillance: This function involves the gathering and publicizing of information about recently
happened event/ news
Correlation: The interpretation of the meaning of events by providing context and through analysis
Cultural transmission: Media plays a crucial role in transmitting cultural knowledge. It includes the
portrayal of cultural elements in movies, TV shows, and other forms of media
Entertainment: Providing amusement and enjoyment to the audience.
