Today, with the explosion of information technology, people are turning to read

online newspapers in lieu of mainstream ones. I personally believe that this

tendency has both positive and negative aspects, which I shall discuss below.
On the one hand, it is undeniable that online news provides the readers with
obvious benefits. The first one to be mentioned is the convenience since
nowadays, people can easily access the news through a variety of smart devices
such as mobile phones, laptops and tablets. More particularly, with only a
smartphone, one can update the latest events literally minutes after they happen
through facebook or twitter.
Another noteworthy positive is the diversity. With a huge network of unlimited
platforms, media news is able to cover a wide range of information, from
politics to entertainment, whether in Europe or Asia. This variety helped them
gain more and more preference from the public.
On the other hand, there are also some drawbacks of online media that cannot
be ignored. To begin with, the older generations are not comfortable in reading
e-papers, compared to traditional ones. In other words, both the social network
and smart gadgets, which are essential to track the news online, are too
complicated for most of the elderly to use.
Moreover, reading online news can cause information pollution for the readers.
This is because the online reports are often diverse but contaminated, unreliable
and inauthentic, which easily make the users misunderstand and confused,
eventually having negative impacts on their perception.
All things considered, besides the convenience and diversity, e-papers also
bring about some downsides such as information pollution and trouble for the
older readers. In this technological era, this kind of tracking news will become
more and more dominant so we should try to be smart readers and take as much
advantage as we can and stay away from the shortcomings it may cause.
