DAILY LESSON LOG Teacher MARK ARIEL G. PECAJAS Learning Area Science
Teaching Dates & Time October 5, DAY:
2023 (12:30-6:30 PM)
________________ Quarter 1st

I. OBJECTIVES
A. Content Standards The learners demonstrate understanding of the relationship among the
locations of volcanoes, earthquake epicenters, and mountain ranges.
B. Performance Standards The learners shall be able to:
1. demonstrate ways to ensure disaster preparedness during earthquakes,
tsunamis, and volcanic eruptions; and
2. suggest ways by which he/she can contribute to government efforts in
reducing damage due to earthquakes, tsunamis, and volcanic eruptions.
Learners will be able to:
C. Learning Competencies/ 1. describe the possible causes of plate movement (S10ES-Ia-j-36.5); and
Objectives 2. discuss how ridge push and slab pull cause plate movement.

UNIT: EARTH AND SPACE

II. CONTENT
MODULE: Plate Tectonics
TOPIC: Ridge Push and Slab Pull

IV. PROCEDURES Materials

A. ELICIT Strategy: CHECK YOUR UNDERSTANDING
DIRECTION: Using the illustration below, explain the PowerPoint
convection current in the earth’s mantle cause the Presentation
movement of the lithospheric plates.

B. ENGAGE Strategy: PUSH OR PULL

DIRECTION: Identify whether the following activity shows PowerPoint
pushing or pulling. Presentation
ACTIVITY PUSH OR PULL
1. Typing in the keyboard
2. Getting book in your bag
3. Shooting a ball
4. Opening a drawer
5. Kick a ball
6. Tying a shoelace
7. Stepping the brake
8. Removing plug
9. Dragging a luggage bag
10. Pressing a button
C. EXPLORE Strategy: WHAT DRIVES THE PLATES?
DIRECTION: The students are to perform the activity. PowerPoint
Procedure: Presentation
1. Using the diagram below, demonstrate slab pull and ridge push
as driving force in plate tectonic movement.
2. Each member of the group will simulate the process of ridge
push and slab pull using the diagram above.
3. Each member will represent as the mid-oceanic ridge,
subduction zone and plate movement as shown in the picture
below.

4. Observe what will happen when you push between plate

movements. What about pulling the last member of the group
near the subduction zone.

D. EXPLAIN Strategy: GUIDE QUESTIONS

DIRECTION: The students will answer the following guide
questions.
1. In your observation, describe ridge push and slab pull? PowerPoint
2. What is the difference of ridge push and slab pull? Presentation
3. When you push the two plate margins, what is the impact to the
plate tectonic? How about when you pull near the subduction
zone? Explain your answer.
4. Showing that this is the force, which has the greatest effect? Why?
5. Why slab pull is important?

E. ELABORATE Strategy: VENN DIAGRAMM

DIRECTION: Using a Venn diagram below, compare the
Guide Questions: ridge push and slab pull theory. PowerPoint
1. What are slab pull and ridge push? Presentation
2. How does ridge push affect slab pull?
3. What causes ridge push and slab pull?
4. How do slab pull and ridge push work
together?
5. Why is slab pull important in the
movement of plates?

F. EVALUATE Strategy: FILL IN THE BLANKS

DIRECTION: Fill in the blanks to complete the sentence. PowerPoint
Word Pool: Presentation
●slab pull ●mantle
●ridge push ●subduction
●convection current
●plate tectonic

G. EXTEND Strategy: ASSIGNMENT

DIRECTION: Using the internet or other science source PowerPoint
material, search for seafloor spreading theory. Presentation
