Hemispheres

Topic : In Class Questions

1. A hollow sphere in which the circus motorcyclist performs his stunts has a
diameter of 7 m. Find the area available to the motorcyclist for riding.
The area available to the motorcyclist for riding is equal to the total surface
area of a sphere with a radius of 7/2 m.

We know that the total surface area of a sphere with radius ‘r’ is equal to
4πr². Here, r = 7/2m, hence, the total surface area will be
Total surface area = 4 π(7/2)²
= 4× × 22 49

= 154 m²

2.
A hemispherical bowl is made of steel, 0.25 cm thick. The inner radius of the
bowl is 5 cm. Find the outer curved surface area of the bowl.

given
inner radius of the bowl = 5 cm
thickness = 0.25 cm
outer radius of the bowl = 5 + 0.25=5.25 cm

7. In the question, a statement of assertion (A) is followed by a statement of

reason (R). Mark the correct choice.

Assertion : If diameter of a sphere is decreased by 25%, then its curved

surface area is decreased by 43.75%.

Reason : The relation between the Surface area S and Volume V of sphere
is: S 3
= 36πV

Both assertion (A) and reason (R) are true, and reason (R) is the
 A. correct explanation of assertion (A).

Both assertion (A) and reason (R) are true, but reason (R) is not
 B. the correct explanation of assertion (A).

 C. Assertion (A) is true, but reason (R) is false.

 D. Assertion (A) is false, but reason (R) is true.

Lets check for assertion first.

Curved surface area is decreased by 43.75%. So, here we can say that the
assertion statement is explicitly true. Let's check the reason statement.

Here we can clearly say that assertion and reason both statements are true
explicitly but reason is not the correct explanation of assertion.
