EXPERIENCE MUSEUM

(RESTORING THE ESSENCE OF CLASSICAL MUSIC THROUGH

ARCHITECTURE)

ABSTRACT:

Architecture pleases the eye while music pleases the ear, and the interesting part is
that they have extreme similarities. The principle of architecture resembles that of
music (rhythm, proportion, harmony, unity, repetition, etc.) Thus, it is said that,
“Architecture is said to be frozen music while music is said to be liquid architecture”

Many architects like ( Iannis Xenakis, Daniel Libeskind etc) have used music and its
theory to create architecture, while many musicians like ( Brian Eno, John Cage etc)
have used their music pieces of architecture to help create music. If one were to study
both architecture and music, they would begin to understand the shared ideas between
the two art forms.

Although this connection seems quite strong and well understood, but there are still
individuals who believe architecture should remain architecture and vice versa. They
do not believe in any great
connection and feel architecture and music should remain void of each other.
Since I’m interested in music, I do believe that this is the perfect opportunity for me
to understand in depth about both the art forms and create a bridge between the two
(especially with respect to the traditional context) which might help me in creating
stronger design ideas.

NEED OF THE PROJECT:

• The museum can contribute to the promotion and awareness of Indian classical
music on a national and international scale. It can host events, concerts, and
exhibitions, attracting a diverse audience and fostering a greater appreciation
for this traditional art form.
• Incorporating interactive elements within the museum, such as virtual reality
experiences, hands-on exhibits, and multimedia presentations, can create a
dynamic and engaging learning experience. This approach can cater to diverse
learning styles and age groups.
• The museum can play a role in cultural diplomacy by promoting Indian
classical music internationally. Through collaborations, exchange programs,
and outreach initiatives, it can strengthen cultural ties and showcase India's
artistic heritage on the global stage.
• The museum can become a cultural tourism destination, attracting visitors from
around the world. This can contribute to the cultural and economic
development of the region where the museum is located
FEASIBILITY OF THE PROJECT:

• Choose a location that is accessible, culturally relevant, and has the potential to
attract a diverse audience.
• Develop educational programs, workshops, and outreach initiatives to engage
local schools, colleges, and community groups.
• Evaluate the demand for a museum dedicated to Indian classical music.
Consider the level of interest among locals, tourists, scholars, and enthusiasts.

AIM:

The aim of the project is to establish a vibrant and dynamic experience museum
dedicated to classical music in India, serving as a catalyst for cultural preservation,
education, and appreciation. Through a combination of preservation efforts,
educational initiatives, and community engagement, the museum aims to become a
cultural landmark that celebrates the enduring legacy of Indian classical music.

OBJECTIVES:
1) STUDY OBJECTIVES

• Conduct in-depth historical research on the evolution of music, major musical

movements, key figures, and cultural influences.
• Analyze the diverse demographics and interests of potential museum visitors.
• Assess potential acquisitions for the museum's collection, considering
historical significance, rarity, and cultural representation.
• Identify the educational needs of visitors, including students, musicians, and
the general public
• Explore innovative technologies for interactive exhibits, digital archives, and
virtual experiences.
• Taking into concern about specially challenged people.

2) DESIGN OBJECTIVES

• Showcase the diversity of Indian classical music by representing various

regional traditions, such as Hindustani and Carnatic music.
• Incorporate spaces for live demonstrations and performances, allowing visitors
to experience the magic of Indian classical music in real-time.
• Create spaces for community engagement, collaborations with local musicians,
and cultural events that celebrate the living tradition of classical music.
• Ensure the museum's physical and digital design is accessible to people of all
abilities and backgrounds, facilitating an inclusive environment.
SCOPE:

• Include dedicated spaces for live performances, recitals, and concerts. These
spaces should be equipped with acoustics suitable for classical music genres.
• Ensure that the museum's architectural design is innovative and complements
the cultural significance of Indian classical music
• Engage with local communities through outreach programs, collaborative
projects, and partnerships with local schools and institutions.

LIMITATIONS:
1) STUDY LIMITATIONS

• India is home to diverse classical music traditions, including Hindustani and

Carnatic music. Designing a museum that adequately represents the richness of
these traditions can be challenging.
• Access to historical and authentic source material, including rare manuscripts,
recordings, and artifacts, may be limited.
• The level of community interest and engagement with classical music may
vary. Limited awareness and appreciation of classical music could impact the
museum's outreach efforts.

2) DESIGN LIMITATIONS

• Achieving optimal acoustics for both exhibits and live performances can be
challenging, especially in urban environments with high noise levels.
• Availability of sufficient space for exhibition halls, performance areas, and
interactive displays may be limited, particularly in urban settings.
• India is a linguistically diverse country, and designing exhibits in multiple
languages may present challenges.
