1.What is the difference between bone and cartilage?

The difference between bone

and cartilage is that the cartilage is thin, flexible and resistant to compressive forces on the other hand
the bone is hard ,brittle and lacks elasticity the bone is very strong unlike the cartilage That provides a
cushion like padding and bones provide skeletal support ?

2.What is the function of the joint?

The function of a joint is to hold the skeleton together and support the movement

3.Name the main types of joints and listen to the locations around the body where
they are found.

The main type of joints are the synarthrosis these joints are fixed joints that are located between the
teeth, the amphiarthrosis there slightly movable and located in the pelvis then there is the
diarthrosis these are freely moveable and this is located in the elbows shoulder and ankle.
4. Name
the functions of all the parts labelled above.
Cranium
Humerus
Ribs
Vertebral column
Pelvis
Femur

Excretion and Homeostasis

5. What is excretion?
Excretion is a process in which metabolic waste is eliminated from an
organism. In vertebrates this is primarily carried out by the lungs, kidneys,
and skin. This is in contrast with secretion, where the substance may have
specific tasks after leaving the cell. Excretion is an essential process in all
forms of life.

6. List 3 types of excretion seen around the body

1. Ammonotelism
2. Ureotelism
3. Uricotelism

7. Label the parts of the nephron.

8. Describe the functions of the parts of the nephron above.
Proximal tubule - is an intensely active region of the nephron where
two-thirds of the glomerular filtrate, including water, important ions, and
small molecules

Bowman’s Capsule - Bowman's capsule surrounds the glomerular capillary

loops and participates in the filtration of blood from the glomerular
capillaries.
Glomerulus - The glomerulus filters your blood
As blood flows into each nephron,

Distal tubule - A distal convoluted tubule connects to the collecting duct

system that fine-tunes salt and water reabsorption and plays a major role in
acid–base balance.

Loop of HENLE - The principal function of the loop of Henle is in the

recovery of water and sodium chloride from urine.

Collecting duck - The initial segment of the collecting duct, the cortical
collecting duct, takes off from the distal convoluted tubule in the cortex.
