AC DRIVE DRILLING SYSTEM

Date: 6/21/ 2012

Subject: Availability of the Resistor Bank Temperature Protection Circuit.

Product: All VFD systems with a resistor bank and chopper.

Assemblies: Chopper cabinets.

Objective: To inform customers of engineering recommendation for use of additional

resistor bank temperature protection circuit into the chopper enable
circuit. This addition enhances resistor bank thermal protection.

Issue: During chopper’s normal operation if for any reason the fan inside resistor
bank stops running, the resistor bank protection circuit will disable the
chopper thereby protecting the resistor bank from thermal damage.

Solution: The resistor bank temperature switch is typically wired into the
respective chopper cabinets. The addition of this temperature switch
status shall be included into the chopper enable circuit. An open contact
of resistor bank 1 Temp O.K relay, resistor bank 2 Temp O.K relay (RL05,
RL08 or RL01, RL06 in some model) are to be wired up to the respective
chopper enable circuit per attached drawing. Exact wiring may differ per
installation. The following diagrams are added for guidance/reference
purpose.

Resistor bank Temperature status is currently also fed into the control
system. The control system is therefore aware of this status and the
reason for the chopper being disabled.
