Amphion Drawworks Control Systems
Date: July 18, 2012
Affected
Assemblies: Reference Appendix A - Affected Rigs
This condition may result in death, bodily injury or property damage if not
immediately addressed.
The condition occurs when parking the drawworks, if hook load is greater than
was present when the brake was previously released.
If the hook load is equal to or less than when the brake was previously
released, no movement will result.
Solution: NOV recommends customers to immediately review the affected list of rigs
within Appendix A and if affected contact their local National Oilwell Varco
(NOV) Service Center to request an updated software release. In the interim,
NOV recommends ensuring load is transferred to slips prior to setting
drawworks brakes if load is significantly more than when the park brake was
released.
Operators should also refer to previous NOV Product Information Bulletins and Safety Alerts at
http://www.nov.com/drilling for additional information related to this issue and information
regarding safe operation, maintenance, and inspection criteria.
Please contact your local National Oilwell Varco (NOV) Service Center if you have any
questions regarding this safety alert.
