CLASS -5 CH12- PERCENTAGE LESSON PLAN

Number of days:
Learning Objectives:- Students will be able to :-
 describe the meaning of percentage.
 determine the percentage of a given objects’ presence within a
group of 100 objects.
 write a percentage as a fraction, decimal number and vice-a-versa.
 express one quantity as a fraction of another and finding the percent
of a quantity.
 Using the concept in day to day life to find certain percentages.

Life skills:-
 CRITICAL THINKING:- students will be able to construct logical ideas
and think critically about a situation.
 PROBLEM SOLVING :- students will be able to gain an aptitude of
solving problems.
Concept Map
RESOURCES USED :- power point presentation, pen and paper, you tube
videos, textbook
PREVIOUS KNOWLEDGE ASSUMED:- Decimals,Multiplication and division
of whole and decimal numbers, Conversion of fraction into decimal and
lowest form of fraction.
INTRODUCTION:- BY BRAINSTORMING ACTIVITY
Q1. How to define fraction?
Q2. After drawing a circle, dividing it in 4 equal parts and shading only one,
What is the fraction of shaded part?
Q3. How to write a decimal number into fraction?
Q4. What is percentage then?
Q5. For example, I break a chalk in two equal parts, what is the fraction of
one piece?
Q6. What is the percentage of that piece?
DAY1 :-
TEACHING LEARNING STATEGY :- Inductive and activity method
 Topic will be introduced by the teacher by explaining the meaning of
per + cent i.e. for every 100 / per 100 .Therefore, fraction whose
denominator is equal to 100 is called percentage. Now one activity will
be performed to shade a square divided into 100 small squares with
different colors.
ACTIVITY:-
For example:- 8 squares are shaded with orange , so the fraction will
become 8/100 and it will be written as 8%.
From here we can say 1/100 = 1%. With this, students will be able to
understand percentage and to complete worksheet 1.

DAY2 :-
TEACHING LEARNING STATEGY :- Inductive deductive and problem solving
method
Linking previous knowledge:- Asking some questions about what is
percentage, some examples about percentage.
 To convert percentage into fraction in lowest form, write the
percentage in fractional form and then find out the simplest form.
For example, 40% = 40/100 = 20/50 =2/5 which is the simplest form of
fraction.
 To convert percentage into decimal number, write the percentage in
fractional form and then start counting the number in numerator from
right to left as many zeros we have in denominator and mark a decimal.
 For example, 0.78% = 78/100 = 0.78 which is the decimal number.
DAY3 :-
TEACHING LEARNING STATEGY :- Inductive and deductive method,
problem solving and discussion method.
 To convert fraction into percentage we have two methods i.e. to make
denominator =100 by multiplying by the l.c.m. of 100 and the no. given
in denominator or by simply multiply the fraction by 100 .
E. g. :- a. 4/5 = (4*20)/(5*20) = 80/100 = 80%
b. 4/5 = {(4/5) *100} %= 4*20 % = 80%
 Similarly, converting decimal number into percentage.
E.g. :- a. 0.3 = 3/10 = (3*10)/ (10*10) = 30/100 =30%
b. 0.05= 5/100 = 5%
DAY4 :- To convert whole number into a percentage using two methods:-
a. Convert whole number into equivalent fraction with denominator 100
b. Multiply the whole number by 100.
For Example:- (28*100)/100 = 2800%
Also, (28*100)% = 2800%

DAY5 :-
TEACHING LEARNING STATEGY :- Concrete to abstract method
To find the percent of a number.
Real life example:- How do you find out the passing marks of certain
exam?
--> 33% of 100 = (33/100)* 100 = 33 marks
Also , if one of the student scored 63 marks out of 70 , then what percent
of marks she/he scored?
--> (63/70)* 100 {using the conversion of fraction into percentage}
= 630/7 % = 90%.
MORE EXAMPLES (USAGE IN REAL REAL)
Class Work:- Textbook Worksheet by asking the related questions from
the student.
Recapitulation through video:- Story Problems
