A. Description
1. Location of the problem

After some hours in operation, a mark on top of the


engine block can be seen.

The mark is located between the cylinder 3 and 4.


(see DIAG7-19_3)
If you see this mark, please follow the diagnostic
procedure.

B. Inspection

Procedure

1. Report the case to Techconnect.


While in contact with Techconnect, give them the following information:
• VIN number
• Engine Runtime (hours)
• Engine log
• How did you find the issue?
• Take photographs of the engine from every direction, before disassembly and after cylinder head
removal without surface cleaning.
• Are there any other problems? (for example, cylinder head stud failure, connection seal
broken, ...)
• Any other relevant information.
2. Measurement Procedure
In order to make sure that the cylinder head seal is sufficient to avoid leaks related to the mark, see
the measurement below:
• Mark Depth:

Do a check on the dimension named 'Depth


Value'
(1) - Mark on the top surface
(3) - Cylinder 3
(4) - Cylinder 4
(A) - Cylinder block
(B) - Depth value

• Mark Width:

Do a check on the dimension named 'Width


Value'
(3) - Cylinder 3
(4) - Cylinder 4
(A) - Cylinder block
(B) - Mark on top of surface
(C) - Width value

Checklist

Follow the cylinder-liner run-out procedure below


and put the value in the first table
(DIAG07-19_10).
NOTE: Appropriate tools:
• DIAG07-19_6
• DIAG07-19_7

Do a check for cylinder ovalization.


Calibrate the tool before use (DIAG07-19_6).
Start at the top of the cylinder then go down to
the bottom (DIAG07-19_8).

• Examine the cylinder liner top surface compared to the engine block top surface. Fill the table
(DIAG07-19_10) and make sure to measure at 4 points as shown.
Tools:
• Press tool for cylinder liner: V910166300
• Holder for dial gauge: V902579200
