1. a) Show that every group is isomorphic to be a permutation group. 10

b) Show that of H and K be normal subgroups of G and K  H then 10

(G / K) / (H / K) G / H .

OR

c) Prove that, let G be a group acting on set X then the set of all orbits in X under G is a 10
partition of X for any x  X there is a bijection G x → G / G x and hence G x =  G : G x 
therefore, if X is finite set X =  G : G x  where C is a subset of X containing exactly
xC
one element from each orbit.

d) Let G be a group then prove that G is isomorphic in to the symmetric group SG . Also show 10
that every group of order p 2 is abelian.

UNIT - II

ii) Let G be a group of order pn , p is prime then G has a composition series such that all
it's composition factors are of order p.

d) Show that A n is a normal subgroup of Sn . If n > 1, A n is of index 2 in Sn & hence 10
