5. OPERATING PRINCIPLE
The working area is ventilated by means of a unidirectional air flow recirculated (5), whose flow rate is
about 80% of the entire volume of air, while the remaining 20% is exhausted (6) from the cabinet.
The total air flow (100%) is provided by a fan (4) that blows air into a plenum from which a part of the
air, after HEPA filtration (1), is conveyed on the working surface (2) and the remainder is exhausted
outside the cabinet. The cabinet can be configured in two modes:
A) INFLOW MODE (DEFAULT)
PRODUCT/OPERATOR PROTECTION
This configuration (see Pic. 5), in addition to protection of the product also provides the protection of
the operator and the environment from dust and fibres released during processing of the products
inside the cabinet.
The exhaust of air occurs through an outlet
positioned on the roof. The exhausted air draws
an airflow (3) of equal volume directed towards
the inside through the front opening that forms a
protection barrier for the operator. This airflow
barrier (contaminated from the outside) is sucked
(7) together with the airflow to be recirculated
(contaminated by the product) to form 100% of
the airflow (contaminated) and to repeat the
cycle.
Pic. 5
B) OUTFLOW MODE
PRODUCT PROTECTION ONLY
This configuration (see Pic. 6) increases the product protection avoiding the entrance of external air
through the front opening, eliminating the protection of the operator.
The exhaust of air occurs through the front
opening. The exhausted air draws an airflow (3) of
equal volume directed towards the inside through
the opening on the roof. This inlet airflow
(contaminated from the outside) is sucked (4)
together with the airflow to be recirculated
(contaminated by the product) to form 100% of
the airflow (contaminated) and to repeat the cycle
(7) .
The amount of exhausted air (3) is replenished
with an equal amount of ambient air drawn in
through the opening on the roof (6), generating
into the front aperture an output air barrier.
Pic. 6
The front opening allows the operator to handle the product in both configurations.

possible risk of fire.
WARNING!
NOTE 1: the provision of gas supply is not recommended. Flames from gas burners
interfere with laminar airflow within the cabinet and may compromise containment.
NOTE 2: where practicable, disposable loops or use of electrical loop sterilizers are
preferred to gas burners.

The KIT should be connected to the dedicated UV-C socket (6.3.1) only and it should be
inserted in the cabinet closing the front access (Pic. 18).
Always enabled and interlocked with fluorescent light.
To turn it on, activate the timer of the KIT for the needed time and follow instruction in 7.6
To turn it off, follow instruction in 7.7
Turning on of the UV-C lamp is allowed only with the front window and panel closing the
front access fully closed.
Pic. 17 Pic. 18
Generally the effectiveness of UV-C lamp disinfection (wavelength 253,7 nm) depends on
exposure time and on the nature of microorganisms: special tables provide this information.
The disinfection must be performed after any work session.
The efficiency of this method depends on right exposure time of the cabinet work zone to
UV-C radiations.
NOTE: the fact that UV lamps are producing light is not directly related to their actual
neutralising power on DNA aerosols and microorganisms. Their actual efficiency may be
tested with proper devices.
On request it is possible to perform a test of efficiency of radiation emitted by the UV-C:
contact your BIOAIR distributor.

The front window (like side walls) is made of tempered safety glass and it’s part of
enclosure being a protection against the UV-C radiations for the operator.
Moreover its position determines the inflow air barrier protection.
The breakage of the window compromises both the UV-C radiations protection and the air
barrier containment.
The front window is tilting and provided with self-support in the opening through the clutch
adjustment of the hinges.
The position of the window is not reported, but the window opening causes the turning off of
the UV-C lamp.

It can be used in the following conditions:
cabinet off (protection against dust and external contamination);
cabinet with UV-C cycle activated (when paired with UV-C lamp).

NOTICE
The cabinet does not have auto-regulation.
Once reached the desired values, the cabinet is calibrated
and will keep the airflow velocities gradually shrinking them
by clogging of the filter and pre-filter.
We therefore recommend routine controls of the set airflow
velocities.

ISTRUZIONI ORIGINALI
5. PRINCIPIO OPERATIVO
espulsa all’esterno della cabina.
A) MODO INFLOW (PREDEFINITO)
PROTEZIONE PRODOTTO/OPERATORE
Fig. 5
B) MODO OUTFLOW
PROTEZIONE SOLO PRODOTTO
L’espulsione dell’aria avviene tramite l’apertura
frontale. L’aria espulsa richiama un flusso d’aria (3)
di uguale volume diretto verso l’interno attraverso
l’apertura sul tetto. Questo flusso d’aria in ingresso
(contaminato dall’esterno) viene aspirato (4)
attraverso l'apertura superiore (6), generando

chiusura dell’accesso frontale completamente chiusi.
