Reflection on Usrah in Action 1

This essay is to summarize what was discussed during the first week of class for what
happened with Usrah in Action 1 and the reflections that were made by the whole class. During
Usrah in Action 1, there were many difficulties faced. To list down a few:
● The class was not that close, and the lack of communication created a lack of
teamwork that the class needed to create a better event that could have been
conducted.
● The small space of the classroom split the class into two sessions, the morning
and evening sessions.
● The lack of transport. Because there was only one van and they could only make
a round trip once, we had to opt for using the transporter service. Because of
this, some of the classmates arrived later than the rest because of the
jam-packed road and one of the drivers getting lost while the other arrived on
time. A lot of time was wasted waiting when it could have been used to conduct
another activity with the kids.
● The kids were too rowdy, and the lack of time and module to create a much more
disciplined session caused the sessions to be a bit disorderly as some couldn’t
control the students well.

To fix a few of these problems so that we can create a better session with the kids in Usrah in
Action 2, here are some of the things that were proposed:
● Create a Plan of Action (POA). This is to ensure that things become more
orderly. With each bureau having its own POA, we can keep track of each other’s
progress with a proper deadline and remind each other if we accidentally forget
to settle some tasks.
● Change the venue. There were many suggestions to change the venue to a
much larger space where the kids could run freely and the whole class could get
everything done in one session without having to split. With more manpower in a
single session, we can create more fun and engaging modules for the kids to
learn and enjoy.
● Limit the age of the kids that the class has to interact with. Target only a certain
age range so that we can create a module that everyone in that age range can
enjoy.
● Book the transportation earlier. This is to make sure that we can secure
comfortable transportation for the kids and that we can fit as many kids as we
have planned to bring.

These are some of the things that were discussed during our first class so that we can improve
everything for the upcoming session that will be conducted. Hopefully, with these suggestions
and comments, our next event will bring about a memorable and meaningful experience for
everyone involved.
