Q1 : As the team leader, you have weighed the pros and cons of the five options and prepared a presentation
to management on how to address this problem. What do you suggest?

As the team leader, I recommend focusing on one option at a time. The first option I suggest is to motivate John to go
back to college. By explaining the benefits and potential for career advancement, we can inspire him to see the value in
further education. It's important to be honest with John about the consequences of his actions and maintain open lines
of communication to build trust.

Q2 :Consider each of the options, and develop an argument to defend your position for each option.

Here is a simplified argument for each option:

1. Do nothing: This is the easiest option, but it may not address the problem and can lead to decreased team
productivity over time.

2. Promote John: Promoting John may boost his ego and work effort, but it could create resentment among other
employees who followed the proper procedures for promotion.

3. Encourage John to go back to college: Going back to college can strengthen the team's social structure and
increase productivity. It eliminates John's excuses about education and levels the playing field.

4. Relocate John to a different project team: Relocating John can help maintain friendships and reduce frustration.
It creates a better work environment for the team.

5. Terminate John's employment: Termination should be a last resort, as it removes a negative influence and
improves the work environment for other employees.

Q3 : What specific leadership behaviors mentioned in this chapter are most relevant to addressing and
resolving the problem with John?

team.
