Chapter 3: Movement Of Substances Across Plasma Membrane

Bab 3: Pergerakan Bahan Merentasi Membran Plasma

hypotonic)

(hypertonic)

a)=Movement of water molecules from a region of high water concentration to a region of low water concentratrion
through semipermeable membrane.

Pipe water is hypotonic to the saturated sucroce solution. So water molecules

diffuse into the visking tube by osmosis. This causes the visking tube to expand
and become turgid

Hypotonic
Plasma membrane

Vacuole.

Nucleus

The solution is hypertonic towards the plant cell. So water molecules diffuses out of the cell by osmosis. This
cause the cytoplasm to shrink and the cell becomes flaccid.
