MATERIALS
Checked ribbon and organza ribbon, for bows.
GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS
Work each project following the corresponding CC and instructions, as in-
dicated by the numbers. For the meanings of crochet symbols, see the key.
Stitches marked over ch are to be worked around the ch-arch.
Rounds which are not shown entirely in the CC should be completed in
pattern. Arrows in the CC mark points where two or more crocheted mo-
tifs are joined or indicate the direction of work. Changes from standard
crochet procedure are explained in the instruction texts. Otherwise, work
following the CC, which are labeled with numbers and letters as given in
the instructions.
BASIC PATTERN 1
Work dc in rnds. Beg each rnd with 1 ch, then work 1 dc in the first st of the
preceding rnd. Close each rnd with 1 slst in the 1st dc.
Colour change: Crochet off the last st of the rnd, to the last 2 lps, then
insert hook in the first st of the rnd, pick up lp of new colour, and draw yarn
through all 3 lps.
BASIC PATTERN 2
Crochet in spiral-rnds. Work dc cont in spiral rnds, without closing rnds
with a slst. When working in spiral rnds, it is not easy to keep track of the
number of sts. For this reason, we recommend the foll method: Before beg
the rnd, lay a piece of yarn in a contrasting colour in the work. Work the rnd,
foll the instructions and complete the rnd to the constrasting yarn piece, if
needed. Before beg the next rnd, lay the yarn piece in the work again. To
work incs, double the given number of sts, i.e. work 2 dc in one st of the
preceding rnd.
INSTRUCTIONS
Rnd 1: Crochet 8 dc in a thread ring.
Rnd 2: Double each st = 16 sts.
Rnd 3: Double every other st = 24 sts.
Rnd 4: Double every 4th st, 6 times = 30 sts.
Rnd 5: First double the 3rd st, then double every 5th st, 5 times = 36 sts.
Rnd 6: Double every 6th st, 6 times = 42 sts.
Rnd 7: First double the 4th st, then double every 7th st, 5 times = 48 sts.
Rnd 8: Double every 8th st, 6 times = 54 sts.
Rnd 9: First double the 5th st, then double every 9th st, 5 times = 60 sts.
Rnd 10: Double every 10th st, 6 times = 66 sts.
Rnd 11: First double the 6th st, then double every 11th st, 5 times = 72 sts.
Rnd 12: Double every 12th st, 6 times = 78 sts.

Rnd 13: First double the 7th st, then double every 13th st, 5 times = 84 sts.
Rnd 14: Double every 14th st, 6 times = 90 sts.
Rnd 15: First double the 8th st, then double every 15th st, 5 times = 96 sts.
Rnd 16: Crochet 1 dc in each st = 96 sts.
Rnd 17: Double every 24th st, 4 times = 100 sts.
Rnd 18: First double the 13th st, then double every 25th st, 3 times = 104
sts, and end with 1 slst.
LARGE ORNAMENTS/GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS
(differences for individual ornaments are included in instructions):
For each ornament, use Anchor Metallic to crochet 2 circles in basic pattern
2 as described above. Crochet 1 circle with cream and the 2nd circle with
red.
After completing the 18th rnd, embroider the circles with Anchor Metallic,
using red on the cream-coloured side and gold on the red side.
Work embroidery with straight stitch. First trace each embroidery design
onto tissue paper.
Then baste the tissue paper to the circle and embroider the stitches on the
circle, through the tissue paper. Dots in each design mark needle insertion
and exit points and also the centre of the crocheted circle. After complet-
ing the embroidery, carefully remove the tissue paper.
Cut 2 batting circles, each with approx. 8 cm (3¼ inches) Ø.
Now crochet the 2 circles together with rnd 19, foll CC a. Make sure that the
embroidery patterns on both circles are aligned in the same direction and
that the hanging loop lies at centre top of the ornament. After completing
approx. half of the rnd, lay the 2 batting circles in the ornament and finish
the rnd.
EMBROIDER DESIGNS IN STRAIGHT STITCH, FOLL ILLUSTRATION
Fir tree and snow flake: Fir tree and snow flake: Embroider stars within
the outline of the fir tree, using one star to cover the hole in the centre of
the crocheted circle. Crochet circles together with red.
Heart and star: Beg with the 16th rnd, change to basic pattern 1 to make
the colour change smoother. Work the 16th rnd with Anchor Metallic, us-
ing red on the cream-coloured circle and gold on the red circle. Then add
rnds 17 + 18 with the main colour. Embroider the heart and star, using the
star to cover the hole in the centre of the crocheted circle. Crochet circles
together with red.
Star: Crochet both circles with cream/gold. Embroider one side with red
and the other side with gold. Crochet circles together with cream/gold.
SMALL ORNAMENTS
For each ornament, use Anchor Metallic to crochet 2 circles in basic pattern
1, up to rnd 12, as described above. Crochet both circles identically.
For the wider rings, crochet alt 3 rnds with red/gold and 3 rnds with cream/
gold (beg once with red and once with cream/gold). For the narrower rings,
crochet alt 2 rnds each of cream/ gold and red/gold. Cut 2 batting circles,
each with approx. 6 cm (2½ inches) ø. In the 13th rnd, crochet both circles
together with dc, working the hanging loop foll CC (no picots).
After completing approx. half of the rnd, lay the 2 batting circles in the
ornament and finish the rnd.
