1. INTRODUCTION
Under Contract No BBG‐KAB/PO/VII/19/001 awarded by PT. Bayu Buana Gemilang, PT.
Wilson Walton Indonesia (WWI) performs corrosion monitoring services at BBG
Cikarang Pipeline. During August 22, 2019 , WWI has replaced corrosion coupon at
BBG Cikarang facilities.
This report outlines scope of work, field finding, discussion of field finding, and
conclusions and proposed recommendations regarding to this visit.
2. SCOPE OF WORK
Scope of work of this visit is to replace corrosion coupon by online operation using
special tools (retriever RSL and service valve) at BBG Cikarang facilities.

4. DISCUSSIONS
Corrosion coupon testing consists of the exposure of a small specimen of metal (the
coupon) to an environment of interest for a period of time to determine the reaction
of the metal to the environment. Corrosion coupons are used to evaluate
corrosiveness of various systems, to monitor the effectiveness of corrosion mitigation
programs, and to evaluate the suitability of different metals for specific systems and
environments.
A calculation of the average corrosion rate from weight loss coupon can be found in
the following formula:

Material of strip and ladder coupon is a carbon steel material with UNS no: G10180
where metal density of coupon is 7.86 g/cm3 and coupon’s surface area 5.2in2 for
strip and 3.4 in2 for ladder.

Hence, the formula could be expressed as follow:

guidelines for interpretation of measured corrosion rate can be found in the following

Average corrosion rate of all retrieved corrosion coupons are categorized as low average
corrosion rate (˂ 1.0 mpy) as per NACE RP0775‐2013. It appears that the fluid was not
corrosive. Failure risk caused by thinning is relatively Low

From the all corrosion rate data at table and graph above, corrosion rate are
categorized as low average corrosion rate (˂ 1.0 mpy) as per NACE RP0775‐2013.
6. CONCLUSIONS
1. Four (4) points of corrosion coupon monitoring installed at BBG facility were
successfully replaced.
2. Corrosion rates for all retrieved corrosion coupons at BBG Cikarang facility are
categorized as low average corrosion rates with no localized corrosion found at all
of the retrieved corrosion coupons surface.
7. RECOMMENDATIONS
Based on the conclusions, our recommendation is as follows:
1. Perform regular monitoring of corrosion rates for every location at least every 6
months.
2. Provide corrosion monitoring spare parts such as corrosion coupon, Teflon primary
packing, and Viton O‐ring for anticipate any replacement parts during replacement
program.
