Established in 1960 as a not-for-profit ship classification society, the Korean Register (KR)
has been promoting safe ships and clean oceans through the development of technology
and human resources in the shipping and shipbuilding industries and other industrial

Construction Surveys for Korean Navy and Korea Coast Guard vessels
KR is working to ensure the survivability and safety of naval surface vessels and submarines
by conducting construction surveys for three 3,000-ton class submarines and a 3,000-ton
class patrol vessel.
Moreover, we deliver those inspection and technical services using KR’s global presence
(15 Republic of Korea offices, 51 offices worldwide) anytime, anywhere in the world.

From 2010 to the present, we have conducted N/SS/P-CAP on over 200 naval vessels and
10 submarines and are contributing to the improvement of safety and combat performance
of naval vessels and submarines by conducting safety inspections, finding defects, and
recommending improvements.

These rules and standards are currently applied in various ways in the design and construction
of naval vessels and submarines.
Development status
• Development of the ‘Core technology development project for the Korean light aircraft carrier’
• Development of guidance and construction survey for unmanned boats and autonomous ships
• Development of guidance and construction survey for WIG Craft (Wing-In-Ground Effect Craft)
• Development of guidance and certification for maritime cyber security system
• Development and certification of eco-friendly ship technologies for decarbonization such as
LNG propulsion ship, electric propulsion ship, and hydrogen fuel cell propulsion ship
• Development of the latest digital technologies for digitalization such as 3D model-based
inspection information management, virtual reality (VR)-based ship inspection training
simulator, and digital twins.
