Established in 1960 as a not-for-profit ship classification society, the Korean Register (KR)
has been promoting safe ships and clean oceans through the development of technology
and human resources in the shipping and shipbuilding industries and other industrial
services, for more than 60 years.

STATUS
• 80 national governments have authorized KR to deliver statutory surveys, including Korea
and France

SERVICES

Survey KR has been awarded inspection authority to perform vessel inspec-

tions by more than 80 nations, including Korea and France.
Vessels under our service program benefit from all class surveys being
conducted by experienced KR surveyors, stationed around the world.

Certification KR provides customers with a range of certification services across

many sectors including ships, airplanes, chemistry, electricity, elec-
tronics and materials.

Naval Services KR provides services for the verification of technical documentation

for naval vessel design and contributes to the stability and combat
performance of all types of surface vessels and submarines.

Industry 4.0 KR provides industry-leading technical services in future technologies

for the 4th industrial revolution, such as unmanned ships, au-
tonomous ships, big data, cyber security, and remote inspections.

Green Services In keeping with our passion for the protection of the natural envi-
ronment, we offer survey and certification services for GHG emis-

Construction Survey (CS)

KR provides Construction Survey(CS) services including ‘plan approval’, ‘Inspection during
construction’ and ‘Equipment inspection’ for the naval business using KR’s global presence
(15 Republic of Korea offices, 51 offices worldwide) to provide those services at the
customers’ convenience.

Construction Surveys for Korean Navy and Korea Coast Guard vessels
KR is working to ensure the survivability and safety of naval surface vessels and submarines
by conducting construction surveys for three 3,000-ton class submarines and a 3,000-ton
class patrol vessel.

• Three Korean Navy 3,000-ton class submarines (SS-III)

• A Korean Navy frigate (FFG-II)
• A Korean Navy auxiliary towing ship (ATS-II) and a Korean Navy submarine rescue ship (ASR-II)

Condition Assessment Program for

Naval Vessels and Submarines (N/SS/P-CAP)
※ N/SS/P-CAP : Naval Vessel/Submarine/Police Vessel - Condition Assessment Program

KR’s Condition Assessment Program (N/SS/P-CAP) is a fully customizable program that

provides a life cycle management suite of engineering and inspection services for naval
vessels, Submarines and police vessels.

From 2010 to the present, we have conducted N/SS/P-CAP on over 200 naval vessels and
10 submarines and are contributing to the improvement of safety and combat performance
of naval vessels and submarines by conducting safety inspections, finding defects, and
recommending improvements.

Submarine - Overhaul Quality

Inspection (SS-OQI)
KR plans to perform a ‘Submarine-Overhaul Quality Inspection (SS-OQI)’ following the
completion of a submarine overhaul by a shipyard. SS-OQI will deliver safer and more
secure submarines to the Navy by applying objective and strict inspection standards.

Diving Integrity Survey (DIS)

KR is contributing to improving the safety of divers and equipment performance by
providing ‘Diving Integrity Survey (DIS)’ with technical rules and inspections of the Navy's
diving equipment.

• Deep submergence rescue vehicle (DSRV)

• Mixed gas diving equipment and chamber equipment.

Safety Inspection (SI)

KR is contributing to improving the operability and lowering the equipment failure rate by
providing ‘Safety Inspection (SI)’ for the equipment of the operating vessel.

for Naval Vessels and Submarines
KR has developed rules for naval vessels and standards for the design and construction of
naval surface vessels and submarines, which are continuously supplemented and developed
through research and development.

These rules and standards are currently applied in various ways in the design and construction
of naval vessels and submarines.

Technical Support
KR is leading the development of future core technologies to prepare for the 4th industrial
revolution and the construction of a smart navy.

Development status
• Development of the ‘Core technology development project for the Korean light aircraft carrier’
• Development of guidance and construction survey for unmanned boats and autonomous ships
• Development of guidance and construction survey for WIG Craft (Wing-In-Ground Effect Craft)
• Development of guidance and certification for maritime cyber security system
• Development and certification of eco-friendly ship technologies for decarbonization such as
LNG propulsion ship, electric propulsion ship, and hydrogen fuel cell propulsion ship
