Method A GENERAL PARTS NOT SUBJECT TO CONSPICUOUS EFFECT OF WATER CONFIRM

This is a method to start the thermal cycle test from a low or normal temperature. Select an
appropriate test procedure and test conditions from Table 6, 7 or 8. Repeat the test for 4 cycles or
more, with the test procedure given in Table 7 constituting 1 cycle. Provided that the category c 80°C
products specified in Table 7 shall be tested for 100 cycles or more. Apply high and low
temperatures while placing test products in a thermostatic or thermo-hygrostatic vessel set under the

specified temperature and humidity conditions.
Remark: The number of test cycles for each part shall be determined according to Table 7.
1.2 THERMAL CYCLE TEST However, if test conditions differ according to the type of vehicle and the location of
installation of each part, the conditions shall be determined via agreement between parties
concerned.

(a) Measuring method for mean breaking strength
(i) Use a preliminary test product and install it at its proper installation location. Expose the test
product to the specified test temperature for 3 h or more and make adjustments. Then, drop
the weight from an appropriate height for the preliminary test. Adjust the dropping position so
that the weight may drop to the location that will provide the maximum impact where the test
product is installed. Set this for each part according to the agreement between parties
concerned. Repeat this procedure to estimate the height for breaking, and determine the initial
height (Ho) for the main test.

(ii) Install each test product at the location determined by the preliminary test of (i) above. Expose
the test product to the specified test temperature for 3 h or more and make adjustments. Then
drop the weight from the test height (Ho) against the test product. No impact caused by the

(b) Breaking strength measuring method for a few test products

(i) Carry out the test according to the procedure (i) of (a) above.
(ii) Then install each test product at the location determined under (a) (i). Expose the test product
to the specified test temperature for 3 h or more and make adjustments. Then, drop the weight

If the test product breaks at this test, drop the weight on the next test product from a height (Ho -

same test product from the height (Ho + 0.05) 5 cm higher than the previous height.
(iii) Repeat the test procedure (ii) on all of the test products available, and find the minimum
breaking strength.

Use the original part concerned as the test product, but if the part cannot be used in its original form,
use test pieces cut off from the part or molded specimens. Refer to Table 30 for the duration of
irradiation of the light. For its temperature condition, decide it according to the agreement between
parties concerned since the condition may differ according to each part or portion concerned.
