I’d always possessed an affinity for math but I’d never considered integrating my passion for computers

and technology with my love for numbers, until my third year of employment. While in a meeting with
our employers at NCBA discussing the bank’s construction project, I saw bank employees analyzing and
presenting data using Python, Pandas and Tableau on their screens. I could tell the evocative and
visceral satisfaction ubiquitous in how they made it look easy and I began craving for more. I’d been
learning from a few online tutorials for data analytics and machine intelligence at Kimia Lab-University
of Waterloo, but seeing the knowledge acted upon by others gave me a Damascus experience on my
future career path.

Since my early years in college, I was interested in applying math to real-life situations. Having enrolled
for an economics and statistics degree, I acquired skills that widened my scope of knowledge. From
analyzing statistical data with software like SPSS and STATA to comprehending policies of public finance
and banking, I got intrigued- wanting to dig deeper into the academic rabbit hole. I became a vocal
participant in classroom discussions and presentations thus excelling in communication and research
skills.

My work experience at DRY Construction Limited has been mind-opening. Being a construction
accountant has been rewarding both subjectively and professionally. I keep records and cost analyses of
all project finances and collaborate with several project managers to develop budgets for upcoming
projects. However, I do not have a clear plan on how to progress my knowledge with my career. The
undergraduate and the supplementary courses I’ve taken give me confidence that I can do more. In
order to quench my career track in my newfound interest, I decided to pursue a master’s to help me
progress my prospects. Through a masters in data analytics, I aspire to familiarize myself with the
modern tools and practices required to perform such feats. The foundations I have laid through my
courses will support me well in this journey.

I found the Data Analytics Master’s program at you University to be complete and application-oriented.
It is encouraging that the institution is home to a large population of international students. I’m
completely aware of the financial prerequisite for admission to this program. The document proving my
financial wherewithal along with this statement for your verification. After completing my master’s, I
envision myself becoming a business strategist. I future, I harbor the dream of setting up a capital
markets firm which would help other companies make marketing decisions. Refining my analytical skills
at your University would help me take forward this dream into reality. I believe I will be prepared
thoroughly for the demand in this newly professional sphere.
